lapsing & the figures???

Post by osgoody1970 »

does any rep on here, have a regular lapsing meeting with their manager? and do they understand the figures being fired at them? I know they are based on last years figures!!! does everyone in the delivery office understand why they are lapsing??? it was meant to be an idea based on getting more annual leave for our colleagues in the summer!!! but as with anything that comes down from on high!!! by the time it gets down to the shop floor, it has completely changed!!! it seems to be area managers putting pressure on delivery managers to lapse so they can save money!!! your thoughts!!!

In our office is determined on sickness levels and d2ds , mail including tracked is failed just to make sure lapsing is done, there is scope for lapsing in the office down to a down turn in traffic and the way people work i.e. coming in early no breaks and prepping d2ds i.e. all in on a Monday and take where they are going CRAZY

There will be exceptions but as a general rule if do the job properly such coming in on time, taking all our breaks etc this will usually either use all your duty time or end up running over time. Do this and there is no time for lapsing/absorption/flexing. If posties come back early the top bods will and do notice this. They don't see or care that you may have come in early.

Correct. They can quadruple lapse every day of the week its pretty irrelevant really if you do the job properly using a LWT, vehicle checks, trying neighbours etc etc then its highly likely you'll be cutting off on your own duty never mind even thinking about lapsing. But then we all know the vast majority will never get it :arrrghhh

The Area manager was in last week and he was moaning because the lazy arsed posties(his words) had dropped lapsing, I then pointed out that yes they had as I told them to as it was 20.000 items above model week, the fecker didn't even know what out model week was set at! And accused me of making the model week figures up... until I pointed out it was set by the last planners that his predecessor had imposed on us.

our office has now gotten the message at last start on your official time take the morning break . we prep part time walks until the primary mail and packets are sorted to their relevant walks this usually is between 8 30 and 9.00 then we prep our own duties by this time all employees have arrived the break is 9.10 recomence 9.30 time taken to tie up . ect [ collect pdas specials . redis, condemns. ] load up leave we usually start first letter between 10.30 and 11.00 depending on traffic ect . which gives virtually no chance of lapsing [tues day exception] and its fairer all round as even the runners have
to reel in a bit!

If my first letter was 10:30-11 then I would be leaving 1 or 2 loops in.

Same here. It doesn’t matter what the traffic figures are. It’s about managers getting us to do something to make their life easier, and of course people will cut corners to get it done. Someone phones in sick - lapsing. Someone quits - lapsing. More than usual on leave - lapsing. The only time we don’t lapse is when we’re fully staffed and no one on sick leave, which is never.

Precisely right.

If you do the job properly....how can you lapse.

They have made a culture for idiots to run around and take lapsing so it becomes the norm for all. Then when the genuine ones say they can't take any
they are challenged.
Once the DSM is used to getting figures out of an office it is expected every week...

Classic case of non solidarity and selfishness from a lot of colleagues.

Because you do not have sufficient work to fill your contracted hours.

And how do you "do the job properly" indoors?
If you don't have sufficient indoor work for the time available it stands to reason there will be more time available for outdoor work.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

You start on time and take your breaks, after that there is nothing we can do indoors.

Our model week is regularly exceeded, but as has been said ultimately it is pushed on and up to the individual to either take it and claim o.t . or use the cutting off procedure (Annex 1 Conduct Code). Doesn't mean that we agree with the practice though, currently one of a number of matters in disagreement over that could result in industrial action
