Its nearly impossible to say, even if you were able to give us more information.
However, yes Royal Mail could dismiss either or both of you if they thought it appropriate to do so.
Any subsequent ET would look at whether the dismissal was reasonable in the circumstances as they were known, and whilst self-defence could be a defence in a court of law, there is no such provision in an ET so it would depend on the circumstances and how Royal Mail handled the situation.
I'll be frank self-defence is always a judgement call and matters can go either way, so I highly recommend getting an Area Rep involved if they take it any further. Hopefully, it will be all over and done with a handshake, or perhaps one of you being moved to reduce the chances of it happening again.
