Accident in changing room
I would assume it is an accident at work, reported and treated as such like any other.

Does not surprise me, issuin* a stage warning! Accident recording is much frowned upon, an area managers bonus can be effected I believe and they can have a habit of being a tad intimidating on reporting them.aiden01 wrote:Thanks tommyrep reported and in accident book but manager trying to issue stage.tommyrep wrote:I would assume it is an accident at work, reported and treated as such like any other.
So long as it is recorded on erica, unfortunately you cannot appeal a 1st or 2nd stage and the Union seem happy to dispute them at the final 3rd stage. Although they are supposed to be at the manager/Doms discretion,in my experience they are issued on a higher levels say so.

Call their bluff, proceeding with the involvement of the area safety Rep will give him the fright he needs, they are con men!
Managers will always try that element of brinksmanship with a tinge of intimidation.
I hope the meeting goes ahead and would bet on the manager playing the friendly good cop scenario, even backtrack and deny the true facts of the issue.

Sorry if I misled you on that issue about stopping the stage absence! It was inevitable and only questionable/debatable at a 3rd stage interview, where with area rep representation he would probably have it rescinded and step back onto the 2nd stage dependant on time lapses. First and second stages cannot be appealed.aiden01 wrote:Stage issuedtommyrep wrote:That is the best way to approach it!aiden01 wrote:just spoke to said member he will bring area health and safety rep to meeting with manager hopefully he will get a better outcome. thanks again tommyrep.tommyrep wrote:Does not surprise me, issuin* a stage warning! Managers in the past had discretion not to issue in certain circumstances, an accident at work could be an example.
Nowadays any absence would incur a stage. I got a bit mixed up on the reporting of an accidental injury while technically at work. Keep an accurate statement and record of events and interview for future reference if required. ( bastards!, lol)

Trying to use a “technicality” I think! Aiden1
The shower room is on RM property and they have a responsibility of care for any event that occurs on their property.
While on break time you are still paid and in the employ of RM, technically not on delivery but still an accident at work imo. Now if he had left the premises to have his break as entitled too! that could be construed as a loophole ( eg, run over crossing the road to the local cafe) they may have a point to debate, but he would still be within paid duty time.
I would have though getting injured on RM premises using a facility provided for the staff to use would have been a stonewall accident at work. Area safety rep should be making enquiries imo. Good luck, don’t take it lying down.

As far as I am lead to believe you can take out a grievance against the manager who issused the 2nd stage warning the grounds that he didn't follow Royal Mail's own prodical regarding discounting an accident at work, thus getting your 2nd stage rescinded.

Accident in changing room
What were they doing at the time of the accident?
Were they rushing?
Did they slip on a wet floor that they could have expected to be dry?
Not every AOD is automatically discounted from the procedure.
If the member was in any way to blame then the stage would be issued.
Is there a history of people falling in this shower and sustaining an injury?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
