LTB 156/19 - CYRIL ONYEJEKWE, FORMER BRANCH CHAIR LONDON POSTAL ENGINEERING AND NATIONAL ENGINEERING REP RMPFS

No: 156/19

12th March 2019

TO: ALL BRANCHES

Dear Colleague

CYRIL ONYEJEKWE, FORMER BRANCH CHAIR LONDON POSTAL ENGINEERING AND NATIONAL ENGINEERING REP RMPFS

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that Cyril Onyejekwe, Chair of our London Postal Engineering Branch, passed away at home on Sunday 10th March after a long battle with prostate cancer and myelofibrosis.

Cyril joined the CWU in August 1979 and was soon representing local members in Romec Maintenance until 2006 when he became London Regional Rep. He became a National Rep in Romec in 2012 and more recently RMP&FS, playing a prominent role in the Branch’s joint campaign with Greater Manchester to get Romec back into Royal Mail Group.

Throughout his long-standing health issues Cyril stayed positive and defied all the odds to stay with us as long as he did. He will always be remembered for his selflessness, dignity and dedication to his members’ right up to the end and was truly an inspiration to all those who knew him.

On behalf of the CWU I would like to convey our deepest sympathies and condolences to Cyril’s wife Janet, his family and friends at this very sad time.

Cyril will be sorely missed by members, colleagues and friends within the union and the wider labour movement.

We will notify branches of the funeral arrangements in due course.

Any enquiries on the content of this LTB please forward to gsoffice@cwu.org

Yours sincerely

Dave Ward
