Monday to Friday delivery ...imminent

I have reason to believe that Monday to Friday delivery is on its way. Deep down Ofcom will agree soon. Reduction in working hours and letter volume .... Royal Mail will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Only letters and flats will end up Mon-Fri, you'll still get packets, Tracked and SDs on Saturdays, probably Tracked and SDs on Sundays as well eventually

Very strong rumours from management and union in our delivery office. If true , Royal Mail could save lots of money by getting same job done for less hours. Royal Mail is business not a service ( like GPO ).

Can totally see Mon-Fri for mail, Sat for packets and parcels so to stay competitive.

Fwiw, I spoke to the Amazon guy who covers my walk a couple of weeks ago. Can't say how many packets I had (perhaps half a dozen) but I had eight parcels. He had 145 in what his app said was 56 locations. Supplies his own van, insurance, £125 a day, pays that reduced company-level tax.

DpD, DHL, UPS, Amazon ..all chugging around every day now. No choice other than to re-shape the RM business.

I actually think this is more likely Amazon deliver 7days But they may have a weekend shift with no Sunday Premimum in the future.

So your reason to believe is just a rumour you heard from your DOM? Very unlikely they will be privy to company strategy so will just be chatting shite!

It's almost certainly just wishful thinking.

While RM will certainly want to introduce 7 day working as soon as it can, there's no way it'll drop Saturday mail deliveries unless there exists a completely compelling argument that it is in its economic interest to do so.

Saturday isn't the 'uneconomic day', for a start, Tuesday is. It's more likely they'd drop Tuesday than Saturday for that reason (they could still, perhaps, deliver mail to firms on Tuesdays in those circumstances). Having Sunday and Tuesday off every week doesn't seem so good, does it?

Everyone on a 7 day rota is most likely, sadly.

Deliver one duty of each pair every other day Mon-Sat, taking only specials and tracked items for the other delivery.
Sundays deliver tracked and specials for an indeterminate number of deliveries.

Under that system, you'd still get most Sundays off, or it is possible they may employ people specifically to do that in a way the LATs are done now.

The other likely alternative is just 7 day working. So deliveries done as now but 7 days a week, with you working 5 in 7. So your rota might be

Week One: Mon-Fri
Week Two: Tue-Sat
Week Three: Wed-Sun
Week Four: Thu-Mon
Week Five: Fri-Tue
Week Six: Sat-Wed
Week Seven: Sun-Thu

The 'positive' being you'd get two consecutive days off every week. The obvious negative being that your weekends would become 1 in 7 . . .
