Does anyone know if any of our union subs go towards the Labour party and if so can we so paying towards them

You have the option to opt in or opt out of the political payment to the Labour Party. It's your decision !

Only if you Opted IN to the political fund, but even then not all of it goes to the Labour Party, some of it goes to individual MPs, and some of it goes to other Political activities and causes that act in our interest - Such as the Anti-privatisation ones. Also what the political fund is spent on is decided by the national conference, not by individual CWU officers.

They changed the law that you had to opt in, rather than out.

Each to their own, but frankly I wouldn't give either of the two main parties money; they don't need it. Give to a local charity instead.

Non union members in our place anyway , greed and getting all the benefits of the union , eg pay rises t and cs for free .

im thinking of leaving the union to, all the area rep is bothered about is if weve had a break! i prefer to work through outdoors cause its an effort to get going again.NOTHING else is on there radar so its a waste of cash.

If you work through all your break times you are working that time unpaid. On days when there is less mail you are then giving RM even more justification for more cost cutting and adding more delivery points to the walks. Even though the union often seems to fail their heart is in the right place and by encouraging us to 'do the job properly' we can help keep RM off our backs. It's a shame though that most posties point blank refuse to do the basics such as use LWTs, come into work on time, and take their breaks.

Many cancel and rejoin at our place regularly. If they've had a bust up with the rep coz they're unhappy about something they cancel any to rejoin a few months down the line. Petty really!

no union = what youre realistically risking losing - paid meal breaks, delivery supplement, holidays limited to minimum allowed by law, protection from managers doing what they want when they want, representation if you get in the s**t - i dont see many people turning down a union rep when they go into a meeting with managers, generous sick pay and sick absence conditions.
Probably a lot more i havent even mentioned, but that is enough for me to pay my subs its an amazing investment. Most of that is on a national level, sure the union isnt perfect, im sure theres local reps that are crap, and even if your local rep is crap, youre still getting the national benefits. Maybe go about seeing how to make a change locally ?
Overall id dread to see what our terms would be like without a union with a business which is attempting to cut the job to the bone at every opportunity.

Well we know what it would be like without the union - just ask one of those DpD, Amazon, DHL type guys; self employed, zero holidays, no sick, 10-hour days and no guarantee of work.

Some people here don't know they're born.
