Would you be a spare if you had every Saturday off??

Just wondering...

We got a few on "family friendly' that work as a spares but get every Saturday off. I've always known that Royal Mail are crap at planning and organising duties for staff because we must now have an equal number of floaters, reserves and spares to the number of posties that are actually on fixed duties!!

Personally, I don't mind working Saturdays as I knew that was part of the job when I took it but we always seem to be bl**dy lapsing duties on Saturdays to cover those that aren't there because of it. Its got to the point where the gaffer is now telling me to leave any parcels on my own delivery (not tracked though) in order to accommodate the lapsing we have got to do on a Saturday. What a joke this company is.

guessing it would depend on the gaffa, if they don't act like the gestapo and accept "working to time" when sent somewhere unknown or paired with a new starter or pie muncher

but that idea would swing for me, won't happen though

We are lapsing a walk tomorrow and will be expected to do it within duty time. Lapsing usually happens more on Saturdays because posties are less likely to want to work their day off on a Saturday or swap that day off for one in the week.

Celger, How do you know that you will have time to lapse tomorrow. You only do the f.....g passing of you have time, that's the whole point. Also you said on here a couple of weeks ago about what changes were happening in your office. And as you've said before that your DOM doesn't let you claim docket, well will you still take the passing it a suit load comes through. And will you take it to your area manager of you are bullied into failing the USO deliberately just for a manager to get his own way. I'm not having a go at you mate but it's just that a once great job has went tits up with mostly idiots in charge..after all it really is a simple job getting letters and pad from A=B when everything is set up for that precise function but the management f..I it up day after day with their meddling for bonus money. Get rid of their bonus and about 80% of them at the same time and RM would go forward with a great future and even the shareholders would be happy with the bigger dividends from the savings from all the so called managers who left. It's really a no brainer.
