Monday to Friday duty

Hi , my whole duty is firms in a huge industrial area ,on Saturday only 6 calls go out so manager agreed to make mon to Fri , 6 firms taken out by another postie on Saturday.
Deliveries are currently being reviewed by CWU and manager with the proposal my duty will loose potentially 50% of calls but I will take another part of an industrial estate nearby which does get a Saturday delivery .
So essentially manager made MY duty Monday to Friday several years ago , my fear is he may attempt to put me on rotation day off to cover Saturday delivery on NEW part .
Any thoughts gents or advice , cheers

Unless you can demonstrate some good reason why you can't work on a Saturday they can do this if they see it as necessary. You could try and get CWU to back you, but they also have to balance the fact that they'd be protecting your Saturday off while everyone else has to do 1 in 4 or worse.

Its not YOUR duty its Royal Mails, get used to working Saturdays like the rest of us.

Sorry , forgot to mention , further reason why duty was made mon - Fri , I applied for family friendly , partner is epeleptic , and I am career at weekend suited all parties , Management saving and no cost

It is his duty. Stop being so negative, just because he has a caring responsibility and you need to get out your pit on a Saturday morning. In the years that I worked in RM I was mostly mon_Fri but then I was what they now call mgv driver. You knew Saturday working was part and parcel of the job when you took it so you can't have any complaints.

Don't worry within 18 months all duties will be mon-Fri except for a few that do packets on a sat morning

It's much, much more likely that the company will move to 7 day working with employees working 5 days out of the seven on a rotating basis. Mail delivery an alternative days (so one delivery of a pair gets mail delivered Mon-Wed-Fri, the other Tue-Thu-Sat, both deliveries have tracked and specials delivered every day. On Sundays multiple walks are covered by one duty just doing packets and specials.

It's extraordinarily unlikely that a corporation in the modern age will ever give its employees a Mon-Fri week if they already work Saturdays. They're not interested one whit in making employees' life-work balance better, they want seven day working and employees fitting into that as the company desires.

Believing anything else is, sadly, just wishful thinking.
