DOM Brings Back Job & Knock
So our office has been struggling since the introduction of the PDA actuals.
Staff have been dragging out leaving t he office, deliveries etc. But many have actually been taking their meal breaks and not running around like lunatics as they know if they get back early they may be sent out with extra work - lapsing or uncovered O/T.
Due to the sheer amount of growth in our area and also a degree of high staff sickness we have recently been failing duties on a regular basis.
It came to a head this week when our DSM (or whatever job title he has this week) visited to chat with the DOM.
The outcome was he has told the DOM that RM will not acknowledge our growth and allow us to recruit or put in extra hours or duties.
Therefore our DOM has been told to do whatever he thinks needs to be done in order to ensure no duty is failed. Create and implement new duties, recruit if need be, get staff out the door as early as possible. The DSM will give full support and assistance to our DOM on this.
Now that raises many issues but there is one major one that concerns me personally.
For years the indoor staff have worked their full duty hours each and every day.
In the past delivery staff were making time through job and knock - but that was down to RM and their inability to resource effectively.
There was always the threat of staff being made to work their paid hours at some stage and low and behold PDA actuals arrived.
When the actuals started our DSM was asking how we were paying out so much O/T with so many staff logging out early each day.
Now we can do as we please - apparently.
Resource to workload has never been looked at with any seriousness in my office. Even the weekly resource meetings between DOM and Rep have stopped - but never did anything.
As an indoor staff member (RLE & Callers) i am well beyond peed off at the amount of hours staff are getting paid for but not having to work.
Today for example about 30% of the office had finished and gone home before i finished at 1pm. Some of them were done by 12pm. I start at 5am and they start at 6am. So today alone some have made 2 hours.
Before the avalanche of "serves you right, cushy indoor job, get back on deliveries" etc..... i was forced into an indoor position after my feet and ankles became shot to pieces delivering to X6, 22 storey tower blocks every day. I had no option.
On average about 50-60% of my office will work at least a day less than me per week. Over a month less than me a year.
Now my DOM is asking me to get the Specials ready as early as possible to allow staff to get out on delivery.
Pissed off doesn't come remotely close.

Mate it’s s trap,if people are gullible to fall for this, served them right,RM will monitor there pdas for a couple of months then come back to them and say,you have finished x amount of time early every day, here’s your new lapsing, don’t fall for it,RM don’t care if your cutting corners, running about, jumping walls ect, they will just add more work to take you to your finish time,Rightly by the way.

You say no recruits then you say including recruiting to clear the office. Managers have always been able to send us back out nothing has changed bar the fact they can tell exactly where we are all the time so any stops or going of your route will be flagged up.

30% were gone before you , therefore, the majority weren't. According to your figures anyway.
In my simple view of the world there are advantages and disadvantages of different roles in this organisation.indoor staff don't have D2D's and all the rest of the stuff to deal with , you remain dry and warm in winter , but don't get to enjoy the warmer weather in the summer outdoors.
You can finish on time without having to have the argument of, "I can't complete, why can't you" ,on heavy days. You don't have to work with delivery methods ,vanshare etc. Where you might not get on with who you're partnered with,or a different partner every time your regular partner is absent. Okay on balance I'd rather be out in the fresh air, but your role has its advantages as well.

Are you sure No.1? A colleague of mine said he was in the office and was shown the PDA info, monitoring the red dot of a postie out on delivery which expands if the postie is stationery (indicates when break is being taken). Was he yanking my chain?

Yes just 30%. But the DSM only visited Wednesday, the word hasn't filtered through the whole office just yet.rubberbond wrote:30% were gone before you , therefore, the majority weren't. According to your figures anyway.

We don't deliver D2D's, but then who puts them to the frames? does the associated paperwork?
Dry and warm in winter.....dry perhaps...not so warm when the heating has packed up and your in a freezing all day.
You don't have managers watching your every move once your out on delivery.
Not arguing as to if i can complete.... really? My duty has no cover...days off and holiday my duty is usually lapsed - meaning i have that work to catch up with when i return. I have failed to complete my duty more than any delivery in my office.
I agree it's a balance, but it's not as basic as many would think.
Do you think that balance justifies people earning a much higher wage than me then ?

I said RM were not allowing us to recruit against growth.cpsteve wrote:You say no recruits then you say including recruiting to clear the office. The DSM visited Wednesday and said to recruit.
I'm guessing as the DSM sent 4 Angard staff to us about a month ago for deliveries and we still have them, then we are likely to get more.

How can your job be lapsed if it's callers and RLE? You can't work in there on your own , so it begs the question, what are your colleagues doing in your absence?

In terms of covering the RLE all they do is receive and allocate the specials - the rest is all left for my return. That includes....processing and endorsing all office missorts (including specials and tracked), traying up all the offices redi's and kill offs. That goes from about half a york on a bad day of trays to around 2 yorks after i've been on leave or after a long weekend off.rubberbond wrote:How can your job be lapsed if it's callers and RLE? The Callers side is that i provide the meal break cover and assist late in the day with moving stock and help on the counter during busy periods. I also spend my first 60-90 mins of every day booking in packets from the day before as no time was ever put into the office for this.
On my day off or when i'm on leave, the regular callers duty gets a meal break if someone can be found to do it. But usually they are sent out on delivery once the counter closes anyway.
On the rare occasion that my duty has someone to cover it, they are always sent out on delivery before getting anywhere close to completing my duty.
Been like this for years.
I used to moan about why delivery staff were given O/T to clear a walk that hadn't gone out the day before but i got nothing.

navigation on a PDA knows where you are so how do ''RM'' not know?

“It is important to stress that PDA data is captured automatically on a daily basis across all outdoor routes and this will only be made available to view the day after the event on a dashboard report. Reporting will not be in real time. The data will be presented in summary view first, highlighting key information for the unit with the ability to drill down into route detail by exception using tabular displays.
The agreement also contains the necessary safeguards for our members in terms of that the data will not be used for capability or conduct cases against individuals:
“This new technology is not being introduced to track individuals or to be used for individual performance management and therefore it is confirmed that the data generated will not be used for this”

it is NOT being used for individual performance, but our reps are telling us that if people are continually finishing before their time, then they WILL use 'captured data' from the PDA to justify adding loops to duties.
