We are constantly being told that letter volumes are dropping off.
Yet myself and most of my colleagues are seeing no drop in letters on delivery.
Also being told drop off in d2d leaflets but yet again we see different.
Is it just a local thing or do other offices notice no drop in mail or d2d.

The usual variations depending on time of year but no massive change. It must be specific areas or something that is seeing drops in mail.

There are so many variables within RM and how it operates so as to make it almost unique. I certainly would say there is no change in the amount of D2Ds we receive to deliver. The numbers of contracts and size of items vary week on week and this has always been the case. One of the main problem with RM is that they try to hit us all with the same hammer but every office will get differing amounts of mail at different times. The business can't be run how they would like to do it and they will likely never realise this.

If they are talking about a 7% drop over a year what would you exactly expect to see?
If you were delivering 1000 letters/day, 12 months later a 7% drop would mean 70 less letters on average/day.
Or 3 minutes less prep time or 3 letters fewer per bundle.
Given that no duty I cover receives anything like that number of letters, you could halve those figures.

ive been known in the past to call their claims of letter decline pure bullshine, ..but I have to admit that lately they are down. well down. this is over the last 3 or 4 months or so.

They don't count the DOWNSTREAM ACCESS letters from DWP , done by UK mail. It's a farce that they dont, but an even bigger farce is the fact that RM CANNOT compete properly as the access price is fitted up by ofcom. if RM were allowed to enter contracts on an even basis, they have the spending power to blow all these kid on mail companies out of the water. But I think it suits RM, as they want the universal service to go down to every other day and they will get it. Let's face it, there's no business case for everyday delivery and it crushes me to say that knowing that about 40% of posties will lose their jobs. The job really is f****d now.

When the machines count the sequenced mail do you really think it discounts DSA?

In the MC i worked in the DSA mail had to be run through the ILSM on a seperate stream from the rest of the mail
i take it that was for a definite count of that type of mail ,wether the figure for that mail is part of the total figure
of mail i would'nt know but i would'nt put anything past them, they have previous for telling porkies over figures.

Might be paranoia on my part but mail volumes tend to drop before RM start to make changes that make the job more unpleasant than it needs to be.

I’ve 550 houses on my walk. Busy days hit 90+% coverage. Most houses don’t get just one letter either!
