how long till lots of us are let go?

Post by leolion855 »

With all the doom and gloom reported today it cant be long till they start axing posties, how long have we got as i dont buy into the were too big to fail idea.
Do we operate a last in first out system or would everyone be scrutinised equally?

Last in first out if compulsory redundancy were forced on us.

Otherwise voluntary redundancy offered with the most senior offered first refusal and working down the list.

Non-drivers should probably feel a bit more nervous about the next few years but I don't think it's going to be very pleasant for any of us. RB will want big change in the next financial year. Look out for squalls come April.

I think more likely, at least in the medium term, is that people who leave won’t be replaced. That’s what happened at the MDECs and was later followed by the offer of VR. They’ll hire temps at Christmas but for the rest of the year, the onus will be on existing staff to pick up more and more when forecasts are off / there’s staff absence.

its the same shite as always addressed mail is down   so does that inc dsa , d2ds ? so are posties going to less houses everyday ? so they can do extra work etc , oh and parcels are up yet again and funny enough these take longer and take more time with scans , signed for etc to deliver , and what has the company done to address this ? fuckall as usual :arrrghhh . I think they will use this when the uso is up for review to try and get rid of it . and tell me if I am wrong but wasn't all the delivery trials based on mail and not parcels ? :left:

To perhaps predict our future we must understand our past. The trend in royal mail has been one of replacing full time staff with part time staff,so if this is the case the first option will always be of voluntary redundancies first. In spite of the cwu who desire everyone to work a 35 hour week, this won't be desirable nor probably sustainable for the company. The proof of this is the fact that there are still part time workers in our business who have worked there for over 10 years and even though they probably want a full time contract, the business prefers to pay them overtime instead...it suits the business this way and it's the reason why we got guys who only work 3 or 4 days a week as well. We are never too big to fail, but it's obvious to me that PDAs and all this technology will eventually be used to improve efficiency one way or another because we are not often the cheapest courier to use. Letter traffic does seem to be declining now that our competitors are actually processing a lot of the mail that we deliver,so most of the profit we make seems to fall on parcels. Given the failure of the trials to get all the mail sequenced in one wave/bench merging - maybe they will use falling mail volumes to justify a shorter working week ??
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

:Applause :Applause well said , but if mail is dropping like they say why are the powers above trialling new ways around mail , that's what I cant understand and surely they should be more interested in trials of walking posties delivering parcels ? or is this just a stick to beat posties who want to finish on time why, MAILS DOWN ,and I never hear the words PARCELS ARE DOWN , and these people are clueless on what posties do everyday .

Well milkmen and bus conductors probably thought much the same . . .

But really one thing I do think is a concern is the falling share price reaching a point where a takeover could happen.
