No. 050/2019

25th January 2019

The U Word Delivery Workplace Podcast

Dear Colleagues,

We have been reviewing our engagement strategy with Delivery Office members together with our Communications Department. We have agreed a programme which will see both the frequency and quality of our contact with members increase.

As part of our plan we have launched a new workplace podcast which will be released monthly. Each episode will focus on a key issue for Delivery members. We will seek input from our members and representatives so that the content is as lively and dynamic as possible.

In line with this, please see below a link to episode one of our workplace podcast. Could you share this as widely as possible using WhatsApp, Social Media and email.

Any enquires should be directed to the Outdoor Department, reference 535, email address: outdoorsecretary@cwu.org.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Baulch

CWU Assistant Secretary

Nothing to do with bullying, but the Union and RM have agreed that you can work an hour less but with the same work load.
It doesn't work and no one has the answer/solution.
On one hand...you can start 12 minutes later every day
On the other...can you come in early to prep

I suspect the business is trying to justify an hour off the working week due to falling mail volumes. That's why our dim comes round looking at ops frames and putting more pressure on posties to take the work when querying why they are leaving loops when there's an alleged 40 per cent reduced call rate. Sure the business will bring part timers in early or get your d2ds prepped but it's all short term day to day stuff that suits them more than it suits us.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

What I took from this is we are to be tracked from beginning to end, indoor and out, whole day will be structured via PDA, with selectable options designed to prevent dodging work, starting late and finishing early. Work allocated to PDAs from centralised location.

Been banging on about how the ultimate goal is to robotise us all.

I listened to the first few minutes and it initially reminded me of those excellent face to face sketches by Mel & Griff. I should really listen to all of it and may well do. I don't agree with a focus on starting late & finishing early - the problems are more with starting early, finishing late, and maybe not getting paid for all hours worked. I acknowledge that currently there seems to be less letters & flats coming through the system but there are many factors including EU regulation and fears over Brexit that are influencing this. These drops in mail often seem to be manufactured and coincide with RM demanding changes or preaching doom & gloom unless it's just paranoia on my part.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.
