Royal Mail to remove majority of collection boxes

HeArd this year we are going from a box 1/4 of a mile to one every mile.

Anyone know about this? Is it nationwide? Will save a lot of hours on collections.
Most boxes I empty have only a few letters max here except the main post office boxes.

Given that most box collections are now done on delivery anyway it would barely save any man hours, only takes 30 secs to stop and empty them when we're going right past them.

Plus it would be dreadful PR...I can see the Daily Mail boomer sad face articles now, forlornly stood by the empty space where their post box once used to be.

The original post is suggesting that the number of boxes done on delivery will increase substantially.
The criteria of 50 letters per box also increasing.
It will remove collection duties/overtime.

All the boxes in my area are already done on delivery, I assumed that was the same everywhere now?
It's only the boxes at P.O.'s that get an extra collection by the actual collection duty.

Wave 3 of collections consolidation coming up , moving most collections onto deliveries. Much as we use to do years ago except with the removal of the afternoon collects. Don't think RM can remove boxes though , that jurisdiction comes under Ofcom's remit.

We've been told that the distance is going up to one mile for a late collection box for the majority of the population but I'd be surprised if boxes are removed. Although saying that look what happened to telephone boxes.

Badly worded post. It refers to the distance figure which relates to whether a postbox is delivered in the afternoon or by posties on delivery earlier in the day. It makes sense to have all the boxes emptied while we are out on delivery and still leaves time for the public to post letters before the boxes are emptied. This just leaves firms collections and post office collections which will reduce number of SAs and save RM some money. Better this than losing more walks from DOs.

Isn't there the possibility that in areas where non-postbox collections are done by DOs that RM could have them done by MCs instead?

Isn't there the possibility that in areas where non-postbox collections are done by DOs that RM could have them done by MCs instead?

I suppose so but given that there are so many PT duties in RM now I think DO would like to hold onto extra work like SAs to top up their wages.
