Royal Mail Uniform Returns Process – Trial of New Arrangements
Dear Colleagues,
As part of the Outdoor Department’s ongoing dialogue with Royal Mail on general uniform matters, we have now been informed by the company of a trial of a new uniform returns process.
Under the current arrangements, all uniform items are returned in a gray sack back to Dimensions’ (Royal Mail uniform supplier) warehouse where the majority are then disposed of, including unworn items. The company advise that not only is this wasteful in terms of unworn uniform items, but it also means that a number of individuals which return unworn items due to incorrect sizing etc are not credited back their uniform allocation to place further orders.
As such, Royal Mail plan to trial a new uniform returns process based on the following:
All used/worn uniform items to be returned back to the Dimensions warehouse via a ‘Green Bag’ – where the item will be disposed of
All unused/unworn uniform items to be returned back to the Dimensions warehouse via a ‘Blue Bag’ – where the item will be reviewed and where suitable, made available for reordering
This new return process will be trialled by Royal Mail from mid-February at the following listed workplace locations:
HWDC
North London Workshop
Bristol MC
Sheffield West DO
Sheffield South DO
Kettering DO
Nottingham North DO
Mansfield DO
NDC
The trial is due to last for around 8 weeks at which point the Outdoor Department will be consulted on developments and any final decision in relation to national roll out. Attached to this LTB is a copy of a Royal Mail poster on the new Uniform Return Process which will be displayed in the listed units.
Any enquires as to the content of this LTB should be directed to the Outdoor Department, reference 500, email address: outdoorsecretary@cwu.org.
Yours sincerely,
Mark Baulch
CWU Assistant Secretary
