Being sent home as no work

Member went into work and was told to go home as they were fully staffed, and there was no work for them. When they came in next day and finished the job they were told to that they needed to work the hours from yesterday and had to perform an extra duty to claw back yesterday’s hours. Now unless this is stated in contract, isn’t this wrong. This is a different office to me and 3rd hand info , I’m trying to help an office with no rep but I’ve had no dealings with this kind of situation as I’m relevanty a new rep myself.

So unless its stated in their contract that their hours may change on a daily basis , is this a non starter from RM.

Can they also adjust the days you work the following week too, ie u normally work a total 20 hrs normal mon - sat but next week they want u to work the 20hrs over weds - sat instead . Again is this a non starter unless stated in contract

I’d say tough shut. I made myself available to work my contract hours yesterday and that’s that.

Do they tell anyone who finishes early that they have to work on or do extra, because its the same thing really, just that the person in question here effectively finished several hours early.

They cannot change normal start/finish times without your agreement, or the days you work. If it involves more money employees might possibly reluctantly agree to changes at short notice. Alterations without agreement can be dealt with by individual grievance, if collective for a large group of people at once through the IR Framework. They may sight 'operational reasons' but thesse should be challenged through these processes

I find that hilarious. I know DOM's are daft but I can't believe they'd say that with a straight face.
