Fact Finding Meeting

Post by Herzeleid »

Hello, so I have a question in regards to a FFI I’ve been invited to. The incident that happened took place on a Saturday at the beginning of December, there was no one to report anything to so I waited until Monday, had an informal chat, and nothing more was said.
However today, which is a month and half after the incident happened, I’m now being invited to a fact finding meeting, but on one of the forms they gave me it says that the FFI should’ve been done within 2 days of the incident being reported which would’ve been the beginning of December. Does anyone have any advice as to where I stand with this? Thanks.

You don't explain what the alleged breach of conduct is.

Promptly is used within the agreement, which was to ensure no delay in following the procedure.

The fact that they have waited over a month should be raised with them.

Did the manager you informed say anything.

I accidentally bumped into someone’s car who was parked in a van space in the van car park (I was in a work van), and as far as I was concerned it was dealt with, all I got today was a letter by my manager (Who is related to the person who’s car I bumped) and told ‘it’s nothing to worry about, it’s just ticking boxes’. But it happened well over a month ago, and by the time I have the meeting it will have been 2 months, and nothing else has been said about the incident until today when I was handed this letter out of the blue.

Take a rep in to the meeting with you, don't take any guff, insist on your rep.

1st Take a union Rep in with you.
2nd His responsibilities should be to ask why it’s taken so long & if he is related to the individuals car you bumped.
3rd If he is I would suggest you ask for another manager to deal with it although in all honestly they are all up each other’s arses.
I don’t necessarily think this is much to worry about, unless your driving record is that bad.

So you're manager should have followed road traffic accident procedure and not the conduct code.

Sounds more like they are trying to cover there own failures.

Thanks for your replies, would also like to point out they’ve had me driving since and I haven’t done my driver changeover again, this is the only driving incident I’ve had. The excuse for me to be aloud to drive again just before Christmas wasn’t manager told me she had booked me in for the driving so thatnwant I was fine to drive, but then my changeover was cancelled and they haven’t put me back in for it since.

can of worms springs to mind, you're probably not insured to drive a RM van, i'd say nothing else unless with a union rep and under no circumstances drive a van until passed to do so

Where I work it says 'cars parked at owners risk'
And as you reported it at the earliest opportunity, what can they do?
It's not a conduct issue, possibly retraining 'to improve skills and prevent reoccurrence'.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

It says the same at my place and I’ve taken pictures of the signs as well. I’ll be speaking to my rep when I’m next in work on Tuesday and we’ll see what happens.

Cars parked at owners risk isn’t a disclaimer. If the other car was damaged it should be dealt with via an insurance claim. A conduct issue can only be considered if you’ve had multiple incidents.

However, have you had a driving assessment and changeover? If not, you shouldn’t be driving the vans, you’re not covered.

They told myself and the other person that RM will not do anything as they’re not liable because it happened in the private car park and I assume are going off what the signs say. At the time the person hasn’t even contacted their insurance to see if they would sort out the damages and I would’ve offered to pay their excess because I felt awful about what happened, however they never approached me and nothing was mentioned about the whole incident until Friday when I was handed a letter inviting me to a FFI literally almost 2 months later.
I feel like they’re trying to stitch me up in some way, and the fact this has been a whole mess is just ridiculous.
This is the only incident I’ve had driving I’ve had no prior incidents, and they’ve had me driving since 22nd December and I’ve not had my changeover, I was told I was aloud to drive again because they’d booked me in for it, yet it was then cancelled and hasn’t been rescheduled since. I’ve been the with company almost 8 months so I figured it was procedure, guess I was wrong and that’s my fault.
I’ll be seeing my rep tomorrow when we’re both back in as he thinks this manager is bullying me anyway.
