The RM health & safety people don't like us using the old cycle trays and in particular the large bread/food trays that are often acquired by posties to use on their walks. This is because we can get quite a lot of weight into them and more than they want us to lift. Occasionally we have to hide them or not leave any in the office after we go out on delivery otherwise the DOM gets it in the neck and they may get confiscated. So the pressure to remove them will be coming from H&S bods and not your management.
Official policy is to use the plastic trays that the letters and flats arrive in to carry to bundles to your van for rural walks. They are not really fit for purpose though especially if you have a lot of small packets in the bundles. So we try and hold onto our large trays. RM is fairly out of touch in how the job has to and is performed as opposed to their myriad of rules & systems.

I just throw each loop into a mail sack, always have done. A total of six, plus my red bag with the first loop. My partner uses grey boxes for his walk but I’ve never bothered with them, it’s impossible to fit everything in if there’s plenty of parcels.

I think probably most walks are too long across the whole of RM now so either some work is done for free on a daily basis or some work doesn't get done on a daily basis. There are arguably less letters and flats nowadays but this has been more than compensated for by the increase in packets & parcels along with loads of changes such as absorption, lapsing, 2D barcodes, trying neighbours to get items delivered, etc etc.

Many thanks for your replies, the bread trays and old cycle trays have been used ever since I started in our office some 36 years ago,and so now they decide it’s a health and safety issue?..,glad to see they are on the ball to sort it,I haven’t a problem with it just want clarification On what we should be using, under the tools for the job and doing it correctly,so load the van up with grey trays Then? Perstops?am well aware H&S for staff is a priority?.. mmmm
