Rights of a reserve

Start off with a bit of a back story

I am a reserve at my office which will involve me covering the holidays of others. When there is no holidays to cover i go to other offices in the local area.

Usually i will get to the other offices for the same time as i would start in my office, do my working day including lapsing and go home. Now usually i have no troubles with any part of doing this and am treated well and generally not put under the pressures that the other staff there are.

Recently i was asked to sort at my own office, go to the other office, sort a round and deliver it, then on return i was asked to do lapsing, which i had no problem with until the manager tried to give me someone else's section and pass it off that it had always been on the round i was doing. I knew this not to be the case as a round i done there the week before had the part he was trying to offload, and i heard the chap doing that bit say he wouldn't be able to do it.

Now this was getting me close to my finish time, and i need to be home so that i can look after my 3yr old and then pick my daughter up from school, as my wife leaves for work on my return. Not a problem when i'm at my office as it's only a couple of miles away, but being at other offices could cause issues.

What i'm wanting to know is mainly what rights do i have being a reserve, ie: should my traveling time be accommodated within my working hours? and any others that i may not be aware of.

I can only see the years ahead becoming more confrontational, with absorbing etc, so would like to know what i am and am not entitled to do.

ive always been informed travel time must be inc in your hours, i hope your insured for business use on your car if you travel to different offices else your technically driving uninsured, the manager of your normal office should be providing transport to.

Start at your start time at home office. Finish at your finish time at your home office. Don’t use your own care between these times. Sorted

For a start dont use your car..start at your do at your official start time,travel time is included in your work hours,use trolleys,take your breaks & allow time to return back to your do at the end of the day,if you don't stand up for yourself they will just take the pi*s out off you

You have the same rights as everybody else, you get paid the same, you do the same job, and they cannot discriminate ,although of course they do exactly that ,because people don't stand up for those rights. Absolutely you must involve the union.

It states communiting to a single place of work it doesn't say it has to be the same place during your employment

My union rep must be telling lies then,it is royal fails job to get to another office,also business car insurance is needed if you use your own car..sorry I'm no expert..maybe trueblueterrier cld help us out
