Walks up for grabs and seniority.

Due to people retiring, IHR etc we have a few walks up for grabs. Two guys who's walks have been lapsed are to be given a pair of duties together despite other folk being higher up the seniority list. Is this a no no?

Its my understanding that any vacancies should be advertised internally for a period of two weeks, and providing no special skills are involved, finally offered on a seniority basis.

The two members of staff who have signed for the lapsed walks become reserves whilst the walks are lapsed. As reserves they could be used to fill the vacant walks until they are advertised to be signed for. They are then able to apply using seniority with everybody else to sign for the walks that have become vacant. This would be dependant on how many vacant walks there are in the office or how long they have been vacant.

14.5 The resulting vacancy will be temporarily filled by a reserve, a surplus employee, a transferee from within the wider resourcing area or another resourcing area or by direct recruitment in line with the process above.

14.6 When the number of consequential vacancies in the resourcing unit reaches 5%, or after a period of six months following the last such exercise (if earlier), the posts will be advertised in the resourcing unit, en bloc and filled on the basis of seniority. If this results in any further vacancies, these will be filled, using the same process as above.

So no automatic right to any duty simply because their original walks have to all intents and purposes, disappeared .

I was booted off my walk 4 years ago so they could lapse it and I wasn't given favourable status when other walks were advertised, and I missed out on a couple. I was a reserve for a couple of years (where I was royally pissed about by management) until I acquired my present walk based upon seniority.

Hmm, ok sounds like what I have been hearing, just needed to know that this isn't just a local stitch up.
