holiday allowance issues

Post by sardonicus »

Hi

23.5 hrs, passenger, 3 days, worked rm 3 years

I just had my holiday 'card' or 'form' returned confirming my holiday/annual leave request for March 2019 to March 2020.

My office has now stopped all annual leave in November bar the first week - I have always had and indeed requested last week in November, it seems Xmas pressure is now 8 weeks as far as they are concerened - no doubt they wont be paying double the xmas bonus!

OK

So back to my holiday form.

6 blocks of one week off - I buy an extra 6 days £8.32 per week, not sure how this is calculated

1 bank holiday credit.! I should get 5 bh creds unless the cred is for last year who knows, very ambiguous, should be much clearer

I believe the blanking off of holiday in weeks, when in fact you are on less than 5 days is confusing especially if you buy extra leave

So my holiday card should read 5 weeks at 3 days annual leave - 15 in total, as other days that week are rest days, my do has said all the week is blanked out as holiday on them weeks to make things easier!

The sixth week is also blanked out for a weekly block of 5 days, with a day carried over ( i will assume this to be my extra 6 days that I pay for but in actual fact it could be any of the weeks.)

The problem is If I pay for 6 exttra days why is 2 of my days annual leave, that I paid £8.32pw, on of my rest days, I will be off anyway! Not A problem if I was paid for the 2 days but my dom has said I will get my normal pay ! And which week is my 'extra week@ that I pay for - the firtst week maybe? thought not!

All the annual leave on my form should show 3 days annual leave for each week and 2 rest days, thereby not being confusing - the 6 days that I pay for shoyuld be clearly set out, maybe in red etc the extra 6 days should be taken over 2 weeks of 3days as I only work 3 days so the other 2 per week are REST days not annual leave.

I should be given the option, at my choice only, of having 5 of the 6 extra day annual leave I pay for, to be taken on the same week, but as I only work 3 days it should be my choice only.

If I choose to have 5of my 6 days annual leave in one week I SHOULD be paid for 5 days

I pay now for 6 xtra days annual leave but have to take 5 in one week 2 are rest days and been told manager will only submit 3 day normal week not extra 2 days

I have spoken to many part timers in my DO and all in same boat, pay for extra 6 days but 5 of those days allocated in same week, when 2 are non working days, but always receive 3 days pay!

Hope this make sense, your thoughts?

Sorry, but I can't make out what you are asking is in your post, any chance of breaking it down into 1 line questions.

Hi TBT, Everyone

Sorry about my poor post, I appreciate your input, its clearly unclear to most, I put it down to my stroke of which I am in recovery, 10 months later!

I am also sorry for the confusing post, but would greatly receive your opinion/wisdom on this matter.

I work 3 days a week cover duty 23.5 hrs a week

I am trying to work out my Annual Leave entitlement 1/04/2019 - 31/3/2020

I also buy poal of purch leave 6 days

I just got back my Annual Leave pick' form for the period 1/4/19 - 31/3/20 and it reads;

5 weeks A/L at 5 days a week( even though I only work 3 days a week! Its not a/l if they are non working days!

1 week of 5 days and 1 day carried forward in respect of my POAL of 6 days.

But

in respect of my POAL I only work 3 days a week so unless I am paid extra 2 days for that week I will be paying for days I don't actually work! I have been told I will receive my normal 23.5 hrs pay that week

I have been told how to work out A/L , is this right?

if full time postie gets 28 days annual leave ;

Then to get p/t equivalent

5.6 x number of working days = Holiday entitlement

5.6 x 3 = 16.8 days Holiday entitlement?

Holiday as well as PAOL should be taken on working days?

So 16.8 days should be taken over 5 weeks of 3 days and then 1.6 taken another time or rolled over (if requested)?

AND PAOL should be taken on working days only i e 6 days paol should be my 3 working days taken off for 2 weeks?

i hope this makes sense - it does to me lol but thats a different matter

i would love a reply but assume everyone is busy so wont be offended

kind regards

To get to the essence of it our leave for a full year is 4.5 weeks initially. That's 4.5 weeks of whatever contract and however many days you work.

So if you break it down into days. Leave including POAL is 6 weeks, if you work 3 days a week then you have 18 days leave.

If you further break it down into hours, all leave including POAL should be paid at 23.5 hours a week.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, if you are working 3 days a week, but because you are a reserve work and can work any of 6 working days then you should still only use 3 days if on leave but as they don't know what days you should be working they haven't identified which days those are. On my leave Sheet, it would show my leave as every day except Friday and Sunday.

To confirm what they have done is ok, type in what they have on your leave sheet for a weeks leave.

--------------------------------------------------------------

According to my calculations, the most POAL you can be buying every year is 4 or 5 days and that's only if you have been at RM less than 5 years, from then till 20 years it's going to be less because you can only have 6 weeks annual leave a year.

Just to confuse the issue AL is calculated in hours rather than days/weeks now by scrooge, ahem, I mean RM isn't it.

Regarding when AL stops being allowed to be booked I think our DO is still allowed to book time off in November bar the last week in November when only one person can book that week. (Our DO is quite small compared to others.) I wouldn't be surprised though if RM eventually moves to no AL in November as well given that many people will get their presents sorted in November. Such a decision will likely cause a situation where there are not enough slots available for all the AL in a DO unless they employ more staff which they don't like doing.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

As with most things RM it doesn't appear that the same system is being implemented to all it's staff

Hi

Many thanks to all contributors, its much appreciated!

TBT in answer to your reply, my annual leave sheet/card
as follows;

top left box; contract type - LTPT, my pay no, days /week - 3, leave group - LG-5, DOE, purch leave 6

top Middle box; Carried forward blank, BH credits 1, Manual adjustment blank, Net adjustments 1

top Left Hand box; Basic entitlement 30, Adjusted entitlement 31, days booked 30, days outstanding 1

The lower boxes which contain a list of dates to allocate annual leave sets out 6 weeks of 5 days, all with weekdays all abbreviated and sat u6 and sun u7

finally right of these, box 'public holiday credits' lists 1 on Easter Monday.

To confirm, I work a contract of 23.5 hrs per week as a cover for 3 duties, I have set days to work on a rota covering the duties days off.

I was at one point, not now, on 20 hours over 5 days and I paid £6.71 per week for POAL = 7.5 hrs? 22.5 a/l plus 7.5 days poal

I now pay £8.34 per week POAL for what should be 4.5hrs - 13.5 a/l plus 4.5 poal! which I believe is wrong, as is the rest of this sheet.

I believe i am entitled to 5 bank holidays, I am not sure what Bank holiday credits mean, are they from last year,( I was on long term sick) or do they say what they think i am entitled to in total b/h in 2019-2020?

My purchase leave says 6 not sure why as I can only purchase 4.5, I believe the blanking out of annual leave weeks into periods of 5 days is confusing and lazy as it should be 3 days those weeks.

Incidently, Most if not all p/timers in my DO are told they can only claim a bank holiday if they were rotard to work it, and for the first two years I never got one, as my 5 days were moved around to make sure I never worked one and then moved back. I believe I should have got them back in leu if I was not scheduled to work them, I believe workers of 5 days are entitled to all 8 b/h

Also I have been owed 5 weeks annual leave (accumulated while on long term sick , been back over 4 months on rehab - i had a stroke) which have been ignored, I want to take them, I believe I have right to take them before end of March 19 - I belive its law, not business allowing or any other excuse, and its neing ignored and time is running out!

WE are all busy and I appreciate any response if anyone has time

kind regards, Happy New Year

Can someone explain to me how this leave being calculated by hours came in is it in an agreement somewhere?

But where is it agreed? Before, if I wanted to take my leave say 24 different Wednesdays throughout the year I would have got 24 days leave but if I took the same now my entitlement would be less days, so when was this agreed?

Annual leave
There is no material change to the amount of leave which employees are entitled to. Annual leave will continue to be allocated to employees based on the hours they work and their contractual entitlements in terms of leave. However the PSP will record and process annual leave in hours instead of days, meaning that leave entitlements will be reduced by the actual hours and minutes taken – not days as is current practice. This means that leave can now be taken in hours if a full day is not required.

Sorry mate but I don’t understand that as this is a new thing
