Saturday shuts

On a Saturday people in my office leave in some businesses and schools on their frames, can someone tell me how or who decides its a Saturday shut?
for example some schools are open on a Saturday with no office staff but janitor opens it for maybe sports events, so I assume it makes sense not to deliver it on a sat as office staff not their till Monday, but how is it decided?

Haha I can understand even if a school was open as its just a janitor office staff wont be In till Monday so Saturday shut, but B and Q haha! strange one!

Local knowledge of duty holder. Another priceless area of local information that RM could use when doing office re_designes but they don't believe the posties as they think they would lie about the time it takes to do the walk.... As if,...

The business itself, it can request a Saturday retention.
In theory the DOM should be periodically writing to non-residential premises to enquire whether or not they require a Saturday delivery, with the retentions that have been requested being recorded in the walk log.
In reality however it generally just falls down to the postie's individual judgment.

I have been thanked before for taking some mail on a Saturday because the regular doesn't normally bother, and I have had a complaint for exactly the same thing.
In neither case was a Saturday retention noted in the walk log.

In short the aplus system generates a letter every 12months, which asks the customer what days they require a delivery.
This info is recorded on aplus and mail can only be retained based on this letter.
Rm could face a fine for with holding mail without the customers authorisation.
A few years ago rm quality teams noticed this failure by delivery managers and believed a fine of up to 15million could be imposed by the regulater.

You get the odd crazy one, an item gets posted with a note saying something like "Don't deliver on a Saturday" then they post it on a Friday Special Delivery

In the case of businesses it would usually be an office of some description. Most people don't work on Saturdays & Sundays hence why it is called the weekend.

As another poster said they apply for a Saturday retention and the DOM puts a little round sticker of the appropriate colour on their slot in the walk frame.
Another reason can be that access cannot be gained such as with some schools where either they don't have a letterbox or they lock the outer gates for security reasons or to stop kids getting in to use their skateboards on the playground etc.
