Sick absence

Colleague suffered nasty dog bite following a dog attack,and was signed off sick by the doctor(and still management wanted him in)talk now he may loose his Xmas bonus,please tell me this is a wind up!?..

I believe your Xmas bonus is only affected if your long term sick and on reduced pay some managers spread or encourage rumours that you lose it if you go sick in December

total bollocks. he would have to be on reduced pay, normally this is after 6 months. also an accident on duty is not counted in the sick absence procedure if it is not his fault or of his own making. DOM or lino are talking out of their arse. yes it IS a wind up.

I was on sick for the first week of the Xmas period and our DOM isn't completely sure what happens. Personally I would say posties who are actually sick or injured should not incur any loss of Xmas bonus. Only Postie's who are feigning sickness should lose a percentage of their bonus.

Eligiblity for payment is linked to employment during the christmas pressure period.

For each full week an indivdual recieves no pay during the presure period ( eg unpaid special leave etc ) the indivdual will lose one quarter of the supplement.

For each full week where basic pay is reduced for sick pay pension rate the indivdual will lose one quarter of the supplement.

For each full week where basic pay is reduced for sick half pay the indivdual will lose one - eighth of the supplement

For each day counted midnight to midnight excluding bank holidays on which an employee takes unofficial industrial action their supplement will be abated by 10% for officail action it will be abated by 3%

Before anyone asks what sick pay-pension rate is if entitlement to full and half rate sick pay has been exhausted, employees who are contributing members of the Royal Mail Pension Plan will be paid at a rate equivalent to the highest rate of pension they would be eligible to receive if dismissed on ill health grounds, or at sick pay at half rate if lower.

All sick absences are supposed to be treated as genuine.an how do you distinguish who is genuine and who is feigning.

Patterns of sickness such as many Saturdays or sickness connected to AL or going sick if AL cannot be booked. Won't say anymore but we all know work mates who go sick when they are not. Some have it down to a fine art. In our DO we call it 'Sick Club' although we don't have so much of a problem since one person left a long time ago. Years ago we had a few instances of posties being 'sick' for over a year when there were other reasons and they were not sick or working elsewhere as well.
