Yes. Work as directed (but make sure that RM are playing fair with your timings and where you report for work).

You can ask why a reserve isn't being assigned but there could be a number of reasons why they're not.

Yes they can send anyone anywhere within reason. Usually happens when there are staff shortages in a number of offices near each other. So for example if office A and office B both were short staffed but office B was short say by four more posties than office A then A would be obliged to send a postie to B.
If you do get asked to do this there are a number of rules to remember:
1) Always go to your usual office first at your usual duty time and not before.
2) Always refuse to make your own way there and NEVER use your own car/transport. RM have to get you there and arrange for you to be returned to your usual office at end of your usual duty time.
3) The other office will usually view you as the cavalry arriving over the horizon to save them and will usually treat you well. This isn't to say you should encourage your DOM to send you off to other offices.

insisting on being taken and returned to your original DO for your finish time is usually enough of a hassle for the managers concerned that they probably wont ask you again.

100% This. If you work to your time, don't make it easy by using your own vehicle etc and working to your office hours and not theirs then they won't ask for you again.

When I started I got didn’t a 75 mile round trip to deliver not even 2 greys worth of mail.... That was one easy day lol

Yes they can, although most offices usually have spares and reserves for this purpose.

yes , but you travel to your normal place of work and don't use your own transport to get to where they want you to go and its there job to get you there and get you back to your office on your finish time .

A point worth noting is that your own car insurance isn't valid for travelling from your usual place of work to any office you are sent to.

It just goes to show how much RM are pissing off and ailienating their workforce. If the management were more, approachable, honest and not taking the c..t at every turn, then they would have the posties on their side, ALL working as a team and their happy workforce would do them a turn when times were tough, sick rates down, cutting off down, grievances down, failures down ect ect. You scratch my back and I will scratch yours is always the way to go, bullying and pressuring staff will NEVER work. Just look at the amount of offices who have walked in the last 8 weeks. The union aren't even telling other .members about it, but that's for another post, no matter how urgent, even me as an ex postie, thinks it's essential so as to ::BLACK:: the offices that are out mails

Not a grey area. Our own DOM has said we would need business car insurance to do that.
