How bad have you got to be to not get through the probation?

The 6 month probation period. As I’ve seen some colleagues who are permanent who have trouble blinking and breathing at the same time !

In my four years I've never once seen anybody not taken on, that includes somebody who was (continues to be) absolutely hopeless and had about three months off out of the first six. I've never seen anybody sacked either, for anything. There's people in my office who have told managers to f off, have walked out on busy days, not showed up, literally resigned, let a van roll away, caught signing for items 4 or 5 times, caught doorstepping constantly and there's another load who are just hopeless. It's actually quite funny!

I think you've got to basically crash your van through the wall of the DO.... Kill the DOM......Burst into flames and destroy all the mail in the DO .... Before they'll think about sacking you!

That’s exactly what I see on a day to day basis. It’s just that I’m keeping quiet over things, when if I wasn’t on probation I would speak up.

I've only known one postie on probation to not make it because he was lying in the old style coffins

Seriously though, this goes back to what so many on here go on about, staffing levels. We're constantly at skeleton staff levels; our do can't get rid of anybody simply because we need the bodies.

The basic rule of thumb is that you'll only get sacked if it comes down to your skin or a manager's skin. In cases like that they'll throw you under the bus without a second thought.

I lay down in the old style coffin for a laugh, and a manager who appeared out of nowhere walked right past me without even noticing!

Unless you are getting on a bit,however long you have been with RM they just want to get rid of you,thats how it was at my old office.

You make it sound like a bad thing , whoever does that should be elevated to the House of Lords. Or made pope or something.
