Can anyone offer any advice as to the process involved with a OHA. What are the options if ill health retirement is a possibility? How do we work figures out? Have heard option of 3 years at half pay.....has anyone got any links or experience of the whole process? Thanks to all who reply.....

First thing which is paramount for consideration is the medical condition that has caused the absence and the prognosis for a full recovery.
IHR is not now the easy escape route from the business and money rolling bandwagon as it may have been in the past.
OH reports and recommendations will be surveyed as with hospital specialist reports if available including GP medical certificates.
Utilising a rehabilitation programme and regular weekly meetings to monitor your progress if returned to work has commenced.
The business will consider redeployment to another function if they feel that your condition can cope with the work.

After negotiating these hurdles and the business feels there is no suitable work you can undertake and offset the costs to the company that your absence has caused by length of time may grant an IHR.
IHR payment 34 weeks @ basic rate + PILON ( Payment in lieu of Notice ) Max. 12 weeks + Outstanding A/L = £ 20,000 in that area.

Never heard of 3 years half pay. As rehabron has said it's not so easy as it used to be to get ihr any more , basically you need proof from your GP and specialists. RM are not so keen anymore to keep paying out 20 grand. You Dom has to phone around all local offices to see if Thier is any suitable work you could possibly do ie indoor work. I went through the whole process 6 months ago , once oh assist recommend ihr it takes about 2 weeks to be paid off. If you want to ask me anything else about the process private message me. Thanks folks. Had a DOM shove a yorke into my ankle andnowhave 20 % loss of faculty .....get Ind injur benefit for life.....suffered a declinein my ankle forlast 8 yrs and now cant do my job despite itbeing structured to my condition. Got this from my rep but not sure what circumstances these apply to. Any one know where these guidelines appear in print?

Yep. Got £15k about 6 yrs ago.....but would rather have a working ankle........Wondering what the criteria is for 3 yrs halfpay as opposed to 34 weeks lump sum. Anyone know?

Stop saying 3 years half pay that’s nonsense.
You’ll be gone in a few weeks I imagine. You’ll end up with around 20k after tax and get more tax back in April

I am quoting CWU rep documentation as above and as per discussions with the Rep. You may well be correct on the outcome but the ‘nonesense’ is not mine, it is the CWU advice im receiving.......i dont know, im merely quoting.....

To get the 3 years half pay you would have to be considered for IHR with benefits and you would get this if you were considered unable to work again in any employment but you would also be given the option of the normal 34 weeks plus PILON instead.
I have attached the quote For a full time OPG aged 55 with 20 years service.

Thanks Zipmeister for the info. Thought i was going mad banging on about the 3 yrs option......apparently it does exist! My original point made again......RM keeps us in the dark on far too many things, and it is often a struggle to get the info. we need to make informed decisions.Thanks to all who have contributed up to now......got my offer coming soon!

I'm about to go through all this (I've been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer treatment has failed) I've been off for a year and have 3 years service on a 24 hour contract although I always worked 40 hours,does any1 know what I should expect to get or have any advice on anything cheers

So sorry to hear about what you are going through.....i do not know you but my thoughts and prayers are with you. As to your request for info. i would be on to your Union Rep. asap and take it from there as your circumstances will dictate what advice they give i would presume. Being employed seems to me to give you more advantages but that would be dependent on prognosis etc. I wish you and your family my family’s love.
