Sick leave and days off

I’m off sick now and it’s my long weekend, if I ring the office tomorrow andctell them I’m fit for delivery on Saturday even though it’s my long weekend when will my sick absence run to?? Saturday or the following tuesday?? Thanks in advance.

If you are not scheduled in on Sat then it is not an abscence. You are only absent on day's your are rota'd in.

If you are not scheduled in on Sat then it is not an abscence. You are only absent on day's your are rota'd in.

Not strictly true.
If you return to work on Tuesday Sat, Sunday and Monday won't count.
If you're still sick on Tuesday they will.

You have to inform them that you will be back in on Tuesday and you will be taking your scheduled days off. This will mean you are no longer on the sick

It's better to have one continuous period of sickness than have say two periods of sickness intersected by a long weekend. Therefore if you are definitely going to go back on Tuesday then go ahead with what you wrote.
It is also best not to set a pattern of sickness such as always going sick on Saturdays or having periods of sickness connected to AL. This kind of thing will not go unnoticed.

No you don't.
It's good manners to do so but there's no obligation in the sick absence procedure to.
After all you couldn't have two people off sick for the same length of time having different absence records just because one felt better on Saturday and the other didn't until Monday.

They do look for patterns in your sickness but realistically all they can do is bring it to your attention.

yeah as long as you dont go over the limits then "patterns" are irrelevant as far as i know. Maybe at a stage 3 meeting it would be assessed and not looked at in your favour.

Also to the OP if you call in tomorrow you`ll only be counted as absent till Friday. If you dont call in and just return on Tuesday then they can potentially have you down as sick for everyday up until then even Sunday counts as a day sick - so 3 extra days.

its 100% true in my office, maybe even if its managers just being lazy and counting the sick when you actually return. If you dont make a point of saying i was only off for x amount of days in your return to work, they will put you down as being off the whole time.

This is directly lifted from the Royal Mail Sick Pay Policy.

Non-working or rest days and Public or Bank Holidays within a period of absence are reckoned as part of the absence when applying the sick pay limits. Pay for these days will be at sick and not ordinary rates. Such days occurring at the beginning or end of a period of absence will not be reckoned as part of the absence unless the employee was scheduled for duty on those days and did not attend.

It's pretty clear.
