S/A duties
I have signed for three S/A afternoon duties Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday when my day off falls on one of those days am I contracted to work a Monday or a Wednesday instead or do I have to work on my day off
It’s also our union representative who allocates the S/A duties and The weekly duties surely this is a conflict of interests

Yes.
An SA is a second contract with Royal Mail, not a bit of an extension on your original.
If you are on holiday or go sick, then it's managements job to get it covered, if it's your day off on your main contract or you just don't fancy it one day its your job to make sure it's covered.
Odds are there is someone in a similar position who you may be able to strike a "you cover my day off and I'll cover yours" type deal.

Off on a slight tangent but if a SA collection isn't covered and management can't get anyone to do it, is it acceptable for the manager to phone the businesses and tell them their mail won't be collected because of a van breakdown?

Question, I’ve kinda fallen into doing 2 SA duties but if I’m been honest I can do without the hassle, I was told if I wanted to stop I had to give 3 weeks notice ? , thing is I never signed or asked for these duties ?crazyshrew wrote:Yes.

If you had an SA contract it would be 28 days notice. As there's no contract, no notice.Charleyfarley wrote:Question, I’ve kinda fallen into doing 2 SA duties but if I’m been honest I can do without the hassle, I was told if I wanted to stop I had to give 3 weeks notice ? , thing is I never signed or asked for these duties ?crazyshrew wrote:Yes.

That said it if you've been doing it for anything more than a short time it could be that you have created an implied contact and would be required to give the notice that would be required if you had signed pen on paper.
SAs are nothing but hassle, 2/3 of the ones that existed at my office have now been turned in to hybrid duties because people don't want the hassle anymore.
Ours were dished out to a pool of volunteers, no predictability or regularity, or contracts. I ended up refusing to do them until I had a contract specifying the terms and days i'd be doing them.
When actual contracts were handed out I did not sign or return mine.

OP has signed a secondary contract to cover 3 afternoon SA duties, and they are specified as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
He has two choices. Accept that he is contractually obliged to do the work that that he has signed to do. Even if that means coming in in the afternoon to do the work even if he has been off in the day.
Or, come to an arrangement where he still does 3 afternoon SAs but they are on the days where he is is already working his primary contract.
Hassle like this and the fact that SAs are pretty poorly compensated for the inconvenience they cause the people doing them is part of the reason afternoon collection SAs ended up being taken out of my office. People got fed up with it, and stopped doing them.

Scheduled attendance (SA) used to be worth it because it was about time and two thirds. Now it's not worth it but everyone needs extra money depending on individual circumstances especially the AG staff needing to make hours up to a half decent wage.
