can ordinary opg load yorks onto ramp /tail lift of articulated lorries
without proper safety shoes ie steel toe caps
h&s at ours and dom insist we can but we cant operate tail lift
if you operate tail lift you need safety shoes

How would you physically get into the lorry when you need to go on the lift to access it?
You’re not allowed on the lift at all without safety shoes.
Ask for it from your DOM in writing and then grievance it. In the mean time refuse to do it as it’s not a safe request

Never knew our artics had tail lifts, I thought they just backed on to the loading bay. However as has been said you should not be on the tail lift without safety shoes

Assuming your a delivery postie in a DO, No idea but at a guess I'd say absolutely not,
As in you shouldn't be doing that at all.
The driver is 100% responsible for their load. What if they opperate the tail lift and you haven't put the break on the York on properly accident waiting to happen and it will all be their fault.

There's not that many that do, afaik it's only the smaller artics that have them

Why can't the driver load his own yorks on to the tail lift?

Seems a bit shady this one.

Lorry belongs to the lorry driver. Once the York is off the tailgate and on the ground you can take it from there.

Irrespective if you are assisting in the loading of articulated vehicles via tail lift at ground level or articulated vehicles/ double decked trailers via dock lever ramp then the environment requires the useage of safety shoes or boots.
If when carrying out this loading it results unfortunately an accident to your feet then the first question when reporting the accident will be " were you wearing the correct footwear at the time"
If your answer to this question is NO then any compensation claim you proceed with will be discarded.
As with my previous response either you or your H&S rep request to view the SSOW ( SAFE SYSTEMS OF WORK ) MANUAL which should be located in the managers office.
