Can anyone tell me if management should be giving notice of a change in an employees working hours ?
e.g.
Current Hours
11:30am - 18:30pm Tue-Wed, 11:15am - 18:30pm Thu-Fri and 6am - 15:30pm Saturday
Proposed Xmas Hours
12:30pm-19:30pm Tue-Wed, 12:15pm-19:30pm Thu Fri and 6am - 17:30pm Saturday
They want the employee to work the extra 2 hours on Saturday, by possibly incorporating the hours by starting even later during the week, all just to save them hassle of finding someone else to cover.

A change of hours would need to be mutually agreed with the staff member surely, or a notice period given of the change which would take you up to Christmas at this stage.

i know that the employee has said that he doesn't mind the original proposal for the weekdays, but the 11.5 hour shift on a Saturday, he has refused, to which the manager just laughed it off and walked off.

Royal Mail can only vary your hours of attendance by a maximum of 15/30 (can't remember specifically) minutes to start/finish times by force OUTSIDE of a revision taking place.
Thry are also required to give 30 day's notice.
The content of your job can be changed, hours of attendance can't.
Tell them you will be sticking to your current start/finish times.
Get the union involved.

Required to give 30 days notice? Is that correct?
From what I have gathered Dom tries something on, postie kicks up a stink to the union. Union gers a stay of execution for 28 days whilst undergoing the grievance procedure .

It may well be 28. Point I was making is they have to give notice.Sir Henry wrote:Required to give 30 days notice? Is that correct?

A grievance won't put a halt to anything.
Only an IR disagreement does that.
