SPDO Closure & Transfer

Anyone on here have experience of being involved in the forced closure of a rural delivery office attached to a sub-post office and whether or not, as I am led to believe, there is a compensation package related to this ? .. How does the compensation package work ? .. Is it based on mileage allowance relative to the distance to and from your new place of work ? .. What are the timescales involved ? .. thanks in advance for any information on this ……

If your new office is further away from your home you get 2 x times the cost of public transport for up to 3 years with a maximum of £15,000 over the 3 years. Or you claim mileage allowance and time if using car. Even if your house is nearer you get a £150 lump sum just for disturbance money. You get the money for bus cards in advance every six months and can ask for the 3 years in advance but going that way incurs a tax charge as RM are actually giving you an advance of wages, non repayable, which goes into different tax years so just go the six month route and you won't pay anything. Your rep should have been able to tell you this. :nana

We got moved to an office 14 miles away, they didn't want to give us any money so they kept yard where we parked vans and we start from there every morning. We have 1 hour driving time (there and back) each day !!
The best part is because we finish at the yard any undelivered mail plus keys and PDA get left in van in a unsecured yard each night and over weekend. Before anyone says, CWU local and area rep know and don't do anything (its been 2 years now).
You can't make these things up :arrrghhh

Are your duties the same as before? Did they adjust your duties?

Yes they had to put hours in the office. It is a shambles though as they recruit new staff from the new office and when its my ( or one of the older staffs) day off the covers have to get a lift out to yard with all their mail, which is gonna be interesting in the coming weeks

That's total bull and your rep needs his balls booted because what about the posties who don't drive. Also like I've said you would be entitled to £150 at the very minimum. So they ARE paying you for an hour , so that's 10 hours per week which comes to about £112 for wages for each driver never mind the cost of diesel and don't forget that one day in the future they WILL bring the band to the office and they will still be liable for the payments to yous. Have a vote to replace your rep. Honestly some of the things that I read on here, I wouldn't have ever though would happen in RM as the union didn't take any shot from any office or management.

Does anybody know what happens at the delivery office when there is a re-pick.
Our SPDO is soon to be closed and we're being moved to a local large DO and at the moment I have a full time walk in our village.
If in the future our new DO has a re-pick, will we be able to keep our walks or will they just go in to the pot with all the other walks?

You will probably have a bedding in period then in future you will all be classed as one office

In the only experience of merged offices I have, the two offices remained separate but under one roof.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Maybe it depends on the size ?

Said the actress to the bishop.....
"A third of the world's farmland is now useless due to soil degradation, yet we still keep producing mouths to feed. And what's you answer to that? Energy saving lightbulbs?"
