With all the rumbling on here regarding finishing late and claiming overtime, how are some managers allowed to authorise it?our boss seems to be making it his god given right not to give it,to be fair we rarely go over, but depending on Mail volumes ,some do,especially the part time, his sarcastic reply that you’ll get the time back during the week is wearing a little thin now,I wish he would grow a pair and be allowed to run his office how he seems fit,he seems to want to make a name for himself maybe? If so his work at destroying good will and a happy working efficient office is done,so get him fast tracked and moved on,do other managers dare fight there corner and back his/her staff when it comes to overtime etc and how the office is run,or are they simply not allowed to,am convinced there neeeds to be a separation between fact and fiction in what can be claimed etc and not what he can get away with etc, maybe a visit from the bosses boss once in a while to explain the peramaters that they have to adhere to,at least we’d know!

We don’t bank hours so any overtime should be paid. If you finish early on another day and there’s no extra work for you then tough, it’s not your faultrobbertwhitton wrote:With all the rumbling on here regarding finishing late and claiming overtime, how are some managers allowed to authorise it?our boss seems to be making it his god given right not to give it,to be fair we rarely go over, but depending on Mail volumes ,some do,especially the part time, his sarcastic reply that you’ll get the time back during the week is wearing a little thin now,I wish he would grow a pair and be allowed to run his office how he seems fit,he seems to want to make a name for himself maybe? Yep,just as I’ve always thought,he almost puts his hands over his ears and shouts lah lah lah ! I can’t hear you,we may just total our time owed up and cash it in for a day off and simply not come in if he’s going to be like that,I’m going to directly question and challenge him on it and see what he says,

I appreciate every Office is different and therefore run different, and to be fare must be a gutty slog to work over your time, but that being said of course you sho be paid for it,but it’s a hell of a faff ,and the procedure of cutting off is somewhat archaic, but necessary I guess,as we’ve seen on here some offices just simply beget on with and become far too efficient for there own good, but that’s how they work, others challenge everything and so they should but it must be exhausting every day to be at loggerheads with management,

If you work over your time and don't get paid for it you must be an idiot.

Nice! a well constructed sympathetic reply! not sure we are idiots for our boss not wanting to pay overtime, but hey,I do take your point,it must be different in an office that constantly claiming overtime due to mis management, sickness, lack of staff etc etc,I think we must be subsidising them, through being cut back to the bone, anyone relate to this in there office?hothothot wrote:If you work over your time and don't get paid for it you must be an idiot.

Every months or so our office seems to be hot for something. A few months ago there was a push to working safely and everyone was given spikey's and allowed to order RM footwear without doing it online, last month it was scan everything that moves, this month its trying to cut back on the overtime and next month they will have forgotten all about working safely, the overtime and scanning everything, and the emphasis will be leaning towards clearing the office.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The DOM in our DO is the best one we have ever had in the nearly twenty years I have worked there. We do have an emphasis on holding on to full time duties though which has resulted in our walks being longer than in most other DOs. We also as a general rule cannot book overtime/extended delivery except during the two or three weeks leading up to Xmas. The overtime we book then does not always cover all the time we have worked. So I understand where the OP is coming from.
When we have cover DOMs in they don't like the way we run the office and they tend to want to follow all the rules especially where it could be seen that RM is losing out financially. I do get the feeling though that if it were to go the other way and overtime/extended needed to be paid that they would be so keen to sign that off.
In short the union and RM both know what is going on and are willing to let it continue.

If he doesn’t pay overtime for doing overtime then don’t work overtime.

Absolutely. Very confused, so you people seem to be happy to not get paid for working. So you work for free when it’s heavy. Why?hothothot wrote:If you work over your time and don't get paid for it you must be an idiot.

Our Dom is decent, we just sign in sign out. He works out the overtime prints it out you sign it, if you are unhappy with it you speak to him. End of. We do have one or two that have ‘special deals’ where they get done quickly as possible and go home early. one guy comes in early every day works for free basically and then doesn’t ever book overtime even if he goes over, but he’s abit odd.
