Mail in van

Got spotted with some mail on the seat and a foreign special on my dashboard the other day, I know stupid me but just wondering what will happen in the first occurrence of this happening? Straight to conduct or worse?

You are generally allowed to carry your working bundle on the front seat, anything else to the back of van. That is the case in my office and has been the case for many a year.

That's news to me ! ! ! What if you are involved in a road traffic accident... there'll be concert tickets, greetings cards and bank statements all over the street (potentially) ? It amazes me how fast and loose some posties are with the mail. Lock it up securely in the back of the van. Do the job correctly... and don't cut corners? It ain't rocket science ???

so if someone broke into your van and nicked mail out the back, you wouldn't be conducted, but if they nicked it off the front seat you would?

Just tell them that you were driving directly to that delivery point. That you never leave items in full view when the van is unattended. Case closed.

It's obvious, it's in full view of everybody in the front. Also it's alot easier to smash the windows than it is to break into the back!

That would be a reasonable argument provided the mail + foreign special was for the same delivery point.

Given that honesty is a basic prerequisite for the job, attempting to lie your way out of having f****d up is never the best route.
If they were prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt at first, bullshitting will put an end to that.
