Annual leave question.

Recently transferred from one office to another a fair distance away from my old office ( fresh start and all that ) and it’s Bbetter than my old office but their annual leave system doesn’t seem right to me , essentially they give you a block of 3 weeks winter leave and 3 weeks summer leave , for example 3 weeks in January and 3 in June and you have to go around swapping your weeks to get the ones you want.

My question is , is there a national agreement on how leave should be done or can it be done on local agreement ?

It might be , but surely you can’t have your annual leave allocated to you ? I have not picked any of these days I’ve been given.

When leave can and cannot be taken
Employers can:

tell their staff to take leave, for example bank holidays or Christmas
restrict when leave can be taken, for example at certain busy periods
There may be rules about this in the employment contract or it may be what normally happens in the workplace. The notice period for this is at least twice as long as the leave they want their staff to take.

I suppose you could try to get the system changed at a committee meeting or branch AGM, but otherwise, I think you'll have a fight trying to change your leave.

Yeah that’s fair enough but I wanted to check, just means I’ll be off sick as there’s no way I ca work 5 months without a break.
