This is surely one of the biggest things holding RM back. Why should RM HAVE to deliver other, so called postal companies, work at a price the regulator chooses and at a loss. Shouldn't RM be allowed to say how much they want to charge other companies for using the network. If course they should and the very first item on my agenda would be to put the cost of DSA mail totally prohibitive for these companies, forcing them do deliver all these mega contracts with the NHS and BANKS the last mile. They don't have the network to be able to achieve this and would all be bankrupt within a year or two at the most. Then RM get all the mail back, creating more profit which in turn could be invested in the network and delivery, creating more jobs therefore giving a lot of the jobs to the people who previously worked for the other mail companies. RM could get rid of passing as they would know the figures for mail more accurately and everyone would go back to doing there own duty which means happier posture who know their walk which equals higher productivity. Every ones a winner. Sounds to good to be true. It is ALL possible, but, this corrupt regulator has an agenda against RM. They have even said that posties wages are to high. No they want your to come down to the likes of yodels wages. Just look online to see the companies lobbying MPs to influence the regulator. RM should maybe get into that area of thinking, rather than trying to save pennies at the coalface, totally alienating the workforce that brings those very profits and with a lot of goodwill which is rapidly being lost.

we have been had by our own pec and union leadership to protect self interest
look where we were 20 years ago
all that money made with much much less workload and more staff

if we are a truly private company we would dictate pricing but its not to rm interests now as they are in tow with all the other private companies

Effectively it is the regulator who currently runs the company, with an agenda of free market dogma and a need to ensure that UK Mail, Whistl/TNT etc do not go under. We must be re-nationalised, it's a broken model.

I thought it was one of Moya's first big things that she had renegotiated the price we can charge for DSA and it was no longer at a loss?

Our postage rates have gone up a lot but that was mainly to cover the costs of giving half our revenue to the competitors who run DSA through our network. If we get to leave the EU then we should be able to drop the DSA fake competition idea and then our prices could be reduced. Our DOM has told us RM quality of service is much better than the competitors but their prices are cheaper. So dropping the DSA would be good for competition and the customers.

I agree with everything that the replies have said. Of course it was a stitch up. And posties still think that the government is going to bring in a new pension. That ain't going to happen. The union messed that up. Did anybody actually sit down and check the figures that RM said would be needed this year for the old pension. I just couldn't get my head round on why it went from 400 MILLION to about a BILLION in one year. Anyway downstream access is crippling RM. I may have left but I'm still proud to have worked for RM and I do want to see it to from strength to strength.

It is crippling our industry although we don't know how much. All these DSA companies like UK Mail do is simply pick up the mail that is delivered to them and they deliver it to us, and they take a profit from it....OUR PROFIT!! They provide nothing useful for the public and are a massive drain on our future.

The only thing we can do is to charge these DSA companies more for the service we provide them, but thats out of our hands with the postal regulator, who believe that companies that have something of a monopoly tend to exploit their customers. Was it not Ofcomm that decided to fine Royal Mail £50 million for discriminating against Whistl in this way, yet the irony was that Whistl itself went round cherry picking all the best, most profitable delivery routes whilst we still have a Universal Service Obligation to deliver everywhere instead??
