PDA not able to call office

So, I went out on my walk to find that once I was about 1/4 way in to it the PDA battery seemed to be draining pretty quick. So I tried to call the office to get a replacement sent out and surprise surprise it is incorrect phone numbers stored in PDA, so can't speak to anyone. I don't have my own phone either. So by half way through the PDA just crashed and went blank. What do you do?

Also, how does this affect other things, like if I was involved in an accident or bitten, or I needed to cut off and the PDA won't call the office? Surely they are asking for trouble?

You should always have a p4550 card to write down tracked numbers and for getting signatures

I probably should, but I have no idea what they are, or seen them or even heard of them as not only are the management totally useless at getting their house in order, so are the so called work place coaches, that never seem to work place coach.

So if you think I should have a phone on duty, who pay's for the calls to the office? or if you are mugged and it's taken, or you drop it and it breaks?You think Laurel and Hardy in the office will cough up??

But what about the employers duty to look after the Health and Safety of staff? If the Royal Mail also want a cut off procedure that involves calling the office, they should be providing the means to do it?

Why does it seem that everyone is happy to contribute to the coffers of RM executives in every way possible - working early, rushing, not taking breaks, using your own phones at work to benefit the office - then you get shafted just before the ability to sell your shares with a profit warning! Crazy

God, all this technology and yet we allow RM to still not set up phone calls!

I had a problem with my PDA not charging..... Yes it did go flat.

Turns out it was the docking station, not the PDA. Just get into the habit of checking the charge level before you leave the office. I don't think it's necessary to carry a spare battery, but if it makes you feel more confident. When it's charged my PDAs good for a 5 hour plus Delivery.

I think you’re being very petty.

Whats petty? RM giving £100000's out to CEO's on the back of the bottom rung of the corporate ladder giving all these 'petty' amounts of cash to them for free?
It's this attitude of 'Ach well it only ten minutes of free work' or ' I'll use my own phone for work it's only a few pence' etc etc that has gotten to this situation where Posties are being taken for spineless idiots (by managers' that do what they're told 'coz they don't want the 'assle' or are just to scared!

In any other job I've had in various industries, if communication was necessary frequently or for safety with employees, devices were issued or the employer contributed to their phone bill every month. Now RM don't like paying overtime easily, let alone refunding for phone calls or broken phones!

Wouldn’t rely on a Royal Mail issued device being suitable to call whoever I need to call in an emergency, likewise I’d always carry a phone as I wouldn’t rely on management to contact me if there was an emergency at home/family needing to contact me.

‘Not being able to afford a phone’ isn’t a problem these days as you can get a phone for £10 at Tesco

But you are missing the point - RM should be obliged to supply working suitable equipment as it is a tool for the job. Would you use your own van or trolley?
