Whenever you tell them.
If you don't tell them anything they will assume you are still sick and those days will be treated as sick leave.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

That's the official line.Periods of absence are reckoned as for any other attendance pattern, with each working day lost to sickness counting towards the spell of absence, together with any rest days in the middle (but not before the first day or after the last day) of the sickness.

if you phone in to go back before your ''wally week'' starts then you will be classed as being on your ''wally week'' when you are due to be on it. if not, you are still on the sick.

That's not true.daveyeff wrote:if you phone in to go back before your ''wally week'' starts then you will be classed as being on your ''wally week'' when you are due to be on it. if not, you are still on the sick.
Although it's always best to inform management of your potential return to work as long as you return from sickness on the first work day after your rest day(s) your rest day(s) will not be reckoned for sick absence purposes.

nope, if he phones in on the Saturday and tells them he is fit for work on the Monday, and the Monday is the start of his wallington week, then his wallington week will NOT be counted as sick.

You don't have to tell them you're fit for work on your rest day(s). As long as you return to work on the first scheduled work day after your rest day(s) it does not count as sick absence. It isn't rocket science, only rest days in the middle of a period of sick absence are counted. In the middle....as opposed to the beginning or the end.

he is on a wallington. if he does not tell them he is not sick any more, then every day of his wallington week will be counted as sick absence.

No they won't if he returns to work on the first work day after his wallington week.
Just like if you're sick on Saturday but come back on Monday...Sunday doesn't count.
The bit I posted further up the thread is from the official wallingtons agreement.

no. if he goes sick on the Friday or Saturday or both, before the start of his wallington week. and the Monday is the start of his wallington week, and he doesn't say anything, then they WILL assume he is STILL sick. this has happened in our office a few times. having said that, they will normally phone after a couple of days to check if you haven't bother to call in.

Your managers are abusing their own sick absence agreement Davey. If you return to work on the first scheduled work day after one,two or seven rest days the period of sick absence stops on the previous work day. Only if a sick absence continues after the rest days should they be included.
That's always been the case whether it's a wallington or any other attendance pattern. There should be no "assumptions" involved.

well in that case the union should jump on it. they have done it with people on annual leave. lad phoned in sick 3 days before his a/l was due. he went on holiday and they where going to stage him as he was off for 11 days taking his total to over the threshold. manager said he hadn't phoned in to tell them he was fit for duty. its happened umpteen times in our office.

These are the exact words lifted from RMs own sick pay policy.
Non-working or rest days and Public or Bank Holidays within a period of absence are reckoned as part of the absence when applying the sick pay limits. Pay for these days will be at sick and not ordinary rates. Such days occurring at the beginning or end of a period of absence will not be reckoned as part of the absence unless the employee was scheduled for duty on those days and did not attend.

Holidays are a little different.
1. You have to inform them beforehand if you want to move onto annual leave, especially if you're going away.
2. If you don't you will be classed as sick.
It's fair enough really.
Basically it's your choice whether you move from sick absence to annual leave but you must follow two guidelines.Employees who are sick immediately before they are due to go on holiday must confirm to their Manager that they are going on holiday on the due date (unless sick absence continues and the employee remains at home)
