DELIVERY TRIALS/ SWW

Now that the delivery trials have been cancelled does that mean delivery posties won't get another hour off the working week next year ? I've heard that processing staff will be automatically dropping to 37 hr weeks next OCTOBER .

according to our area rep, (who says he's been talking to Terry Pullinger) we WILL be on 35 hrs by 2021/2022. trials or no trials. take from that what you will.

I don't think Terry can predict where we'll be next week never mind 2021/22.
At the end of the day the SWW will have to pay for itself one way or the other, if it isn't through efficiency driven by delivery methods it will be elsewhere. Sick pay, more part-time staff, another pension robbery...take your pick.

The pay negotiations for 2020 onwards might be a short discussion.

we all knew there ideas would never work in the real world , and as for all the mail being sequenced to save time on the indoor would never happen as well , it sounds a bit like trying to split the workforce with that idea . and I don't think Terry will let that happen .

Agree with this after the April 2019 pay rise , I can see a pay freeze for a few years to pay for SWW.

If processing get the 1 hr reduction next October and delivery staff don't would we get another pay rise on the hourly rate like the part timers did ?

I thought the sww was dependant of agreeing to the trials which we have done, there’s nothing in the agreement that says new delivery methods have to be implemented nationally. We’ve done the trials, they were unsuccessful so thats our part done

I can see a situation in 4-5 yrs time where the job will either be 3-4 days per week (as a few countries are doing) or around 65/70% part time with any full timers doing ips then prep 2-3 walks then doing a shorter delivery themselves.

I cannot see this current set up continuing because mail is dropping, it will be interesting to see forecasts for our DO at Xmas because our daily figures are only just over 50k

.

To reach 35hrs by 2021/22 a awful lot of peeps may get offered or forced to go to keep operating costs down and dividends up

Ive never had as much unaddressed mail ( d2ds )

Well going off what you have said it would be easy for us to go to a 35hr week

well the rep also said ''big BIG changes coming in the next few years''......RM will go from being predominantly a letters and parcels company to mostly parcels. maybe EVRs or another option would be to train non-drivers to be drivers at company cost if its cheaper than EVRs, or both.

Haha.. some people say Reps are useless and don’t know anything and some think their Reps know about big changes and how the business will be in the next few years
