Mail arrivals
After being off on Saturday Sunday and Monday I returned to work Tuesday refreshed and raring to go,just need to stay focused during the wtll ,mmmm that’s not easy,I’m ok as long as I don’t actually look at the screen at the actors or real smiley postmen high on something,2nd lorry arrives driver informes us no flats, they didn’t get them out on time?...? not sure what that means, just a busy busy day on Wednesday, and no doubt heads will roll following yet another e mail from our boss mmmm probably not, then today 2nd lorry arrives with no tracked items at all for what ever reason?... I take it there is someone or no doubt several people in charge to ensure mail is loaded that should be to the delivery offices? I fear not as the driver says it’s chaos up there!,I despair again at this company even to get mail from a to b is obviously far more complex an operation as us mortals are lead to believe,I dare say our boss will be on the case in the morning with usual apathy, and slide this one under yet another carpet,he would be leaping up and down if it was us no doubt delaying mail, answers on a postcard please.....

We have had a few instances of that happening at our DO usually we don't have one of our usual lorry drivers. What happens apparently is that the staff in the MC don't always bring all the Yorks of mail to the loading Bay . If the lorry driver doesn't realize they haven't got all the Yorks they are supposed to have then our usual drivers will search them out. The replacement drivers won't necessarily know to do this or they don't bother or don't have time.

Yep I did hear that it’s our usual driver, but it’s far from ideal, but like many on hear say ,not my problem, but it’s a laughable way to go on,will no doubt bring it up in the mor and see what story we get from the boss,Celgar wrote:We have had a few instances of that happening at our DO usually we don't have one of our usual lorry drivers. If I left my office without my mail loaded in the van my manager would want to know why. Lately we have had the specials turning up 45 minutes late which puts the locker behind and we all have to wait, tracks coming down on the last lorry and no coded trays until the last lorry. Not now and then but on a regular basis. Is there nobody in charge at these mail centres?Celgar wrote:We have had a few instances of that happening at our DO usually we don't have one of our usual lorry drivers. What you're seeing is the result of Network 18, the mail comes in later so we have got the same amount of mail to process but in probably nearly half the time. The IMPs and iLSMs are runing the sort plans that sort the mail to sequencing batches a lot later so a lot more mail on earlier batches misses the boat for being sequenced. Lack of staff sometimes isn't helping either.antcpfc wrote:Lately we have had the specials turning up 45 minutes late which puts the locker behind and we all have to wait, tracks coming down on the last lorry and no coded trays until the last lorry. I'm afraid you're going to have to be prepared for all dispatches from MCs to DOs being put back, probably by at least an hour, probably within the next year.
Probably an agency driver who's not been told to find them. Processing staff will have certain locations that they take the work and from there distribution staff take it to the bays. Probaby there's a shortage of drivers at your local MC so not enough distribution staff to take stuff out to the bays.Celgar wrote:We have had a few instances of that happening at our DO usually we don't have one of our usual lorry drivers. We know why Mail centres do this. Its because they don't have any staff in them, so they hope to get all the Xmas casuals to sort the work for them instead of recruiting them to do deliveries instead.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The lack of staff is all year round, not just near xmaspostslippete wrote:We know why Mail centres do this. Its because they don't have any staff in them, so they hope to get all the Xmas casuals to sort the work for them instead of recruiting them to do deliveries instead.

at the end of the day, its not anyone in a DO`s problem if mail turns up or not, thats for management to worry about.

Which is why i can see RM pushing all MC to DO runs back by at least an hour, especially if LAT does take off. If LAT takes off then deliveries realistclly need to be prepared for working 09:00-17:00 or even 10:00-18:00 maybe with many duties having collections addedPostie45 wrote:at the end of the day, its not anyone in a DO`s problem if mail turns up or not, thats for management to worry about.

yeah seems very likely to me, not theres much we can do about it anyway. Makes no sense to have people in at say 6.30am when the mail cant be processed and arrive at the the DO until 8.30 or later. Isnt it great how privatisation and regulation is really improving this service for customers ? /s Feels like someones taking a huge back-hander.

I think that this is the real plan and they will go to the CWU and use QOS as an excuse. To be honest they need to go back to 2 deliveries and a sweeper service by collections especially if RM wants 6hr delivery spans which will be a big issue re breaks, toilet stops and the rest. Moya always banged on about a full days work for a full days pay the only way is to go back to how we did it pre 2004.SpacePhoenix wrote:Which is why i can see RM pushing all MC to DO runs back by at least an hour, especially if LAT does take off. Our office is already on six hour delivery spans. I tend not to drink anything and don't take any food into work now. Can avoid worrying about needing the toilet then while out on delivery.
I don't think RM really want us out delivering on a regular basis between 1600 & 1800 especially as it is often dark that time of the afternoon/early evening.
