Any offices having full time duties reduced to part time? I’m full time and after 37 years keen to call it a day ,but no sign of evr, making my round part time would save money and hopefully a little pay off to make me go,anything happening in other units to save yet more money?

The union would not be in favour of full time duties being reduced to part time
On the subject of EVR they are not being handed out like confetti nowadys.
A buy down of hours is not as lucrative to the individual as it was in the past when RM was offering to pay a percentage of the tax being claimed by HMRC in order to reduce their office budget.

News flash. The union ARE in favour of making full time part time. 35 hr contracts are now considered as part time........just where the unon want full time to be in 3 yrs. By which time, a part timer on 35 hrs will be getting paid more than a full timer on 35 hrs. Anyone thought how that one's gonna work out, or haven't they got that far yet.

How do you work that out? Part timers will be considered full timers if they are both on 35hr contracts. Part Timers don't get paid more than full timers, terrible maths there sorry mate.

Until fairly recently our DO only had full time duties. Because two older posties wanted to stay but work less hours , & to help keep RM off our backs, at the last rework & resign their duties were reduced to four full days instead of five. We got an additional four day duty to cover the shared van walks as well. We lost two walks completely and double absorption plus more delivery points were added to all the remaining walks.

The delivery methods trials haven't succeeded due to numerous factors so that idea has been dropped by RM. In addition the CWU is holding firm on no more mechanisation in MCs therefore there are very few time savings left to be made. In short it seems like no more hours of SWW can happen now.

On answering Robert Whitton original post I replied giving the impression rightly or wrongly that his intimation of having his full time duty reduced to part time was in the region of a 20/25 contracted hours and hence my reply.
You may consider the 35 hour contracts which are being introduced to come in line on 2022 as per the 4 pillars agreement on the shorter working week to be part time as you are presently enjoying a 40 hour week with the opportunity for additional hours if deemed necessary but to me it was a ground breaking staement that this business in comparison to other businessess would evenyually have a working week of 35 hours being classed as a full time contract.
To restructure contracts by an hour every year till 2022 would be painstaking and have therefore applied the 35 hour contracts in advance although this does not mean that individuals would be restricted to working 35 hours . The problem is when o/t rate kicks in during the transformation.
It is clearly evident across all the functions in RM that the latest reduction of 12 minutes has not given the business an operational headache but once we go into each yearly reduction stage then the business will have to align their operational strategy accordingly with the changes.
In this business some of the older staff would relish the fact that they only have to complete a 35 hour week and go home others would never be satisfied irrespective of the amount of hours they would want from their employment.

Thanks for your replies,it was just a thought to see if they would put any money up if I wanted to leave and get a part time duty made up to save money,we never get told what the plan is for our office in the future etc so I just wondered, the boss doesn’t know but I doubt if he asks the question either,to seem pro active in saving money if any body is keen to leave

This reply was sent to me from HR in September.

In response to your request for clarification relating to the statement issued by Royal Mail: “From October 2018, new full-time colleagues will be recruited on a 35-hour week” I can confirm that a current employee will move to 35 hours from October, if they move from part time to full time hours.

Also from the 4 pillars Agreement;
New full time employees from October 2018, recruited either from existing employees or new recruits in the core OPG grade, will be on a 35 hour week at the current hourly basic pay rate with pro-rata allowances aligned to the current full-time conditioned hours. Additional hours performed through overtime or scheduled attendance for those employees on this new contract will  be paid at single rate overtime until the total hours worked align to that of our current full time contracted employees. This will be adjusted as we progress through the SWW flightpath.

So it appears 38 & 35 hours are being classed as Full-time!!

Could have fooled me. It's been a shambles.

It's the other way round. RM have to 'align their operational strategy' in order to reduce the working week further. Only with better efficiency will we see 37 hours, and that's not going to happen I reckon.

The twelve minutes reduction from the latest hour of SWW has not given RM an operational headache because most posties are still working those twelve minutes. There have been no operational changes and those twelve minutes of work have not been spirited away into thin air.
There is likely no more ways to make any more efficiencies as we have been running on skeleton staff levels for years. RM is running large parts of the business on part time or agency staff because the overtime rate has deteriorated to such an extent that is cheaper to get posties to do overtime rather than make them full time. All they have left now if they want to implement the remaining SWW is to ditch the USO and drive the service we provide into the gutter. It could well be that this 'fourth industrial revolution' idea will see the demise of many of our jobs.

It's 15 mins for some. The two full timers who prep my duty work a 4 day week, so it's 15 mins not 12. And they are doing 15 mins less work. On my duty.

HR don't know what they say or do what they say they will do. Bristol area has advertised on RM jobs website for fulltime 38 hrs and that was yesterday.

If 12 minutes reduction a day has made it a shambles it must have been a shambles beforehand

So when everybodys on 35 hrs will the pro rata rate go.D2d ,xmas bonus, shares etc.So all 35hrs b classed as full time.Thats a lot more wages for RM to payout.
