Our delivery office has a Union rep who is as about as good as a chocolate teapot, He took over as there was nobody else .
Our office is now mostly P/T as a lot have had enough and retired early or can see whats happening.
most of the rounds that we have were mucked up by an old revision and are unachievable unless you cut corners or come in early unpaid apart from a few of the DOMs office favourites who have a few easy rounds and cream off the O/T, and the new P/T staff are mostly zero contracts and are too scared to not complete, don't know what cutting off is, and take lapsing regardless.

There are a few Fulltimers left who do the job properly and come in the proper time, take their break and don't cut corners who are subtlely bullied by management for not completing .
Should we stand our ground because a lot of the staff have left the union because they had had enough of them in our area,

Will PDA Actuals actually help us to show we are doing the job properly as the DOM is turning a blind eye to all the doorstepping , no meal relief, signing for parcels and cutting across peoples gardens etc that these runners do and is only interested in the office budget

Sounds like a sorry state of affairs Eastie. Perhaps you should try and get the Area Delivery Rep involved? They usually carry more clout with these kinds of problems. He'd obviously have to try and get some Union Recruiting done at the same time. Just because they're PT doesn't mean they don't need Union Protection, if anything they need it more. I'd stick to my guns and carry on working properly if I were you. :thumbup Just watch your back, and don't give the DOM (or his Cronies) any excuse to have a go. If he does try any Bullying put in a grievance. Good Luck. :cuppa

Criticism is fine, put if the person giving it couldn’t do a better job themselves best to pipe down

So if it is a whole office doing the criticising should they all pipe down an let rep do what he likes.

If the current rep is the only one with the balls to step forward and apply for it then they should offer assistance and help.

It doesn't take courage or "balls" to become a rep, it's a relatively straightforward process, there are no tests or exams or interviews to attend, you just stick your name in and if nobody else wants it you're it.

It takes courage, patience , fortitude, training, experience and a great deal of self-sacrifice to become a good rep.

Some reps don't have any of those qualities.

and if they have the balls and experience but have other commitments which mean they cannot give the position the time and attention it needs. I'd be a rep in a heartbeat if I didn't have full time caring commitments I have after work.

Anyone and everyone should be able to criticise a rep, just like on here, we don't ban people from commenting because we disagree with them and the Union should be the same.

Point is I think most reps are sacrificing personal time to get things done, as a result not everything gets done, and some people treat it like a paid for service, where patience and cooperation don’t have to come into it, it’s owed to them, by that particular person, I want it now, gimme gimme, as a result rep gives in and then no rep.

So criticising someone for criticising someone who is criticising a rep is only valid if the person criticising the rep ought to be criticising them.

Lots of time they probably shouldn’t.

Some reps don't have any of those qualities.
A reps biggest problem is not lack of courage, patience etc.!! Wake up and have a long look in the mirror, FFS !
Their main problem is gutless colleagues who continually stab them in the back to the detriment of ALL others generally.
Everyone blames or accuses a Rep of being poor or in the managers pockets when generally the opposite is true.
The DOMs, Lino’s etc just thrive on the lack of support the Reps get from member so the just exploit that very fact.
It allows them to bully, intimidate and abuse with a free hand. Grown men/women crumble like reptiles with no back bone.
Where/ when does a Rep get support in a DO ? when they plead with colleagues to do their job properly ??
Never, there is always a few cretins to undercut ANY Reps efforts. Brown noses I’ve heard them called, Runners etc they are in abundance like parasites and viruses that spread rapidly until everyone is expected to follow suit.

Without good solid support a Rep is fighting a losin* battle, UNTIL members/colleagues/staff support and back them it is a downward spiral. Most posties will realise that when it’s too late, in my opinion it’s inevitable.Without good solid support it is a truly thankless job. The fact that so many units have NO Rep is the main reason managers do and get away with bullying when people try and do the job properly and others do NOT support them, they have the upper hand like dictators
The rot then sets in, no one is interested and it only gets worse.
And you wonder why there is such a shortage of good Reps - plainly obvious to me !!!

Have to agree with this in entirity - my DO has no rep. I stand up to the DOM and DOMBER all the time but I'm one of the few if not only one.

Maybe the poster is not up to the job like most of the posters on here.

We are getting paid for unskilled labour nothing special. We are glorified paperboys nothing else.

We keep blaming management but the truth is the posties are lazy and will drive the company into the ground.
