I'm currently a part time contract. And I'm only getting told my rest near enough at the start of the week or the Friday before hand. Is this the current policy or do they have to give me a certain amount of notice as in 1 week notice etc?

No it's not you should be on a rolling day off like full time staff.

No reserves are on a rolling day off.
Full time or part time.

I asked the manager about it I ask if I can have notice than a few days as I can't plan anything. Her reply was "we don't have to we can change it last minute as I am reserve and people go sick." I said surely that can't be fair I need abit more notive. Her reply was "your in the wrong office you should find a transfer if that's the case"hothothot wrote:No it's not you should be on a rolling day off like full time staff.

The staffing should be done 2 weeks in advance.
Your manager is being unreasonable. This is clearly impacting on your home/work balance and she should be able to see this.
We accept sometimes things might change but not to this extent.
Try and explain it calmly to her and if she doesn't see reason, explain politely that you will be using the grievance procedure.
Ask your rep to witness this conversation and then get them to explain the procedure.

In our office part timers and reserves don’t get rotating days either and the Rota goes up on Saturday afternoon for the following week. I hear ur entitled to a weekend off out of every six but lucky to get two
A year. Is that the experience of other offices ?

Exactly the experience of reserves in our office. You would expect a Saturday off now and again just by the law of averages but I've covered walks that I KNOW the walk holder rota day was a Saturday and been given a Tuesday. 1 in 4s and 1 in 6s can occasionally get an extra Saturday when needed all they have to do is give the screws enough notice to shaft a reserve.

I'm a part timer/reserve. Our rota usually goes up Friday so that's when I find out my day off for the next week, which can vary a lot! Currently on two consecutive Saturdays. Hasn't really caused me much of a problem as yet but when I recently asked my DOM to know a few weeks ahead it was readily available.

Guys this is common knowledge, yes managers are useless yes they change days off last minute, yes it’s unacceptabe.
If there are other OPGs in your office on a rotating day off then you should be too. Grievance then threaten trinunal and you’ll win

It's a simple admin job that useless managers can't be bothered doing the job right and the union stand by and let it happen I'm sick to death of there lack of involvement in anything we are all paying them and they're doing nothing

Funny enough as a rep the first thing I say to the OPG is, have you spoke to the manager and the answer is nearly always no. With the way sickness is and the slow recruiting process, the reserves are always having their duties changed at reasonably short notice.Postman69 wrote:It's a simple admin job that useless managers can't be bothered doing the job right and the union stand by and let it happen I'm sick to death of there lack of involvement in anything we are all paying them and they're doing nothing

What is your Rep doing, allowing management to put rotas up on a Saturday before the following week?hero22 wrote:In our office part timers and reserves don’t get rotating days either and the Rota goes up on Saturday afternoon for the following week. National agreements are in place to have resource plans in place one and two weeks ahead. People have lives and you shouldn't be made wait to a Saturday before discovering what you are on the following week. Yes things may change due to sick absence etc but by and large staff should be made aware a long time before Saturday.
Its time you had your rep sort this out or its time for a new rep
"2 week plan - Review available resource and forecasted workload and build Detailed
Resource Plan for 2 weeks ahead.
1 week plan - Refine the Resource Plan for the following week where any previously
unforeseen events or fluctuations in traffic or leave/absence are due to take place.
Communicate – ensure all agreed resource decisions are communicated and displayed for
the next 2 weeks as a minimum"
