Inward tracked items

How do othe DO handle tracked items. Our office has one person scanning in all the tracked, 500-600 a day. SPDO have to wait until all are scanned in. Do other offices work the same way or does every postie scan there own items in

Scanned in bulk by one or two people when they arrive then sorted to walks.
Well for the most part, the ammout that come in mixed with everything else we probably miss a fair few. Can't see individual postie's scanning their own being successful. Who would be held responsible for missing the scan when they are missorted. The postie's on the sorting the postie on the walk it was sorted to or the postie on the walk the item is ultimately destined to.

We are heavy on the HCTs so have a dedicated support duty to do the oversized, easily gets over 100 tracked, possibly over 200 on a Wednesday and Thursday. Where does the time for the person on that duty (and all the others for that matter) come from to not only sort their parcels but also root through and check they have scanned in all the tracked.

If there is going to be a change i would imagine it will be to ALL parcels with a barcode being scanned in on arrival.

Of course if this one wave, all letters, flats and parcels bing presorted nonsense comes in. Then what? They want our indoor work kept to a minimum but checking through and then recieving everything on the PDA is surly going to be more of a faff and time consuming than the set up we have now?

Thanks for your reply, just seems so much work for one guy. We are up to levels we received last Crimbo on a Wednesday onward. Wouldn’t be quite so bad if the tracked were sorted into 2 SPDO’s and our parent DO but have been told the Mail Centre cannot do this.

We have one or two posties scanning in all the Tracked items as well. We have to keep an eye out in the yorks of ordinary packets & parcels for any more Tracked items and separate them to be scanned.
It's possible that RM already knows that the trials for new delivery methods are already unsuccessful or unworkable & therefore the planned cost savings from those changes will not happen. This possibly formed part of the drop in cost-cutting mentioned in Blacks recent share price smashing announcement.

Realistically DOs are going to have to re-introduce oversize/heavy/SD dedicated vans, especially in light of the Tracked weight limit being increased to 30kg (wouldn't surprise me to see the weight limit for everything else increased to 30kg at some point)

One wave is physically impossible, flats, letters and parcels will never arrive at any DO pre-sorted to walks, I doubt there's any MC that would have a hope in hell of having the space needed to make that possible, plus there isn't the time (well unless you want to be delivering mail in the evening). Why can't you have multiple people scanning them in?

Many MCs barely have enough space as it is, the use of conveyor belts has made it worse (and also slowed sorting down)

When we get the Inward tracked from other MCs it's quite common to get some yorks or sleeves mixed Tracked with non-Tracked when they're meant to be kept separate until they reach the postie's walk prep frame in the DO. It's not unsual to get the odd special on the Tracked yorks as well.

Ours are scanned through the night, normally by 2 people, as we have timed deliveries that start at 07.00.
Minimum 1100 going upto 2000.
It's just getting heavier, last November, we had one day where we had 2900, we expect the week of Black Friday to exceed 4000 on one day

Two people come in an hour early and start scanning. They put a crayon mark on them to show the posties that they have been scanned. The smaller ones are wheeled over to be sorted with the normal packets. Lager tracked are placed next to peoples frames. People know that if a tacked hasn’t got a crayon mark on it the it needs to be scanned. We usually only have the two same people sorteing the parcels and they are fantastic at it so they automatically look out for tracked coming direct in the wrong sleeves

It would be interesting to know if you excluded the foreign packets from the number of non-Tracked packets what the number of non-Tracked packets is compared with Tracked packets
