Rain/snow affecting the PDA??

Does anyone else experience this, it can't cope with rain. It freezes up, won't scan or just mimics the pressing of keys.

Can't say I've experienced the issues you mention ( even with the previous bricks we had to carry around)

Only issue, which is easily rectified, is rain on the scanning lense. A quick wipe usually does the trick ! ! !

Yes it seemed to have a few more problems yesterday than normal but even in the dry its rare I pick it up and can just scan something without having to mess about with it

There has always been a problem with using the screen if it has rain drops or excess moisture on the screen. You get double-ups of letters or incorrect letters when typing names. Also when trying to write signature using plastic stylus on wet screen isn't always easy. A bit like if there is grit on the screen or something.
I recommend using the shoulder holster to alleviate this problem. It hangs vertically then and moves about which dislodges raindrops and knocks moisture off.

Newest problems with the recent upgrade are more software crashes than we used to get, the beep going and having to be reinstated , and signatures collecting up for the whole walk and not being sent off until we return to the DO. The signatures problem is more to do with rural areas where there is preexisting either bad or no mobile phone reception. People in the DO often look on the computer to see if postboxes have been collected through the morning so they notice the signals aren't being sent.

Even in a MC where you've got very good line of site to the wi-fi sometimes they won't send any scans so you can potentially end up with 1,000+ scans stuck on it

Bloody useless in the rain. I have a stash of the old cards and the red book for wet weather.
Either drops on the laser end so it can't pick up the barcode, wet screen not being able to accurately recognise anything you try to input or moisture seeping in under the battery and getting in the electronics, that last one is the real bugger needs the battery out and left to dry for a few hours.

As for the latest update, it's driving me nuts. Scan, beep, post, realise it didn't actually pick up the barcode when you go to hit delivered.

Can imagine doorstep scans must be well down at the moment.

I'm sure I'm not the first to say if Royal mail want us getting it right first every time they need to provide us with equipment that gets it right first time every time.

The "new" version of Android that the PDAs are being updated to is Lollipop. Just look at the table in the above link to see how far out of date it is. I do wonder if RM have done any testing of the new version of android with the RM apps

Today was a pain! On a big duty with loads of firms currently, 30 or 40 tracked/signed/special items in some cases. Just wouldn't scan at times, or it was trying to go back or forward of it's own accord. Reckon I've missed a couple coz of it. Nightmare!

yes today was awful as soon as the rain came that was it ... kept rebooting itself... when it came back on it wouldnt scan .. had to just deliver the parcels without and told the managers this and they said it has been happening to loads of people today

Rain seeping into the battery compartment/area? In DOs do you take the batteries out the PDA at the end of the day or do you leave it in the PDA whilst the PDA is in the cradle?

Totaly agree PDAs and rain are a no go.Had nightmare on Sat ,missed scanning crashing,delayd bleep,etc .I was not only one in office to have this issue.Managements answear ...We know.. standard reply.Wait till they see the scans targets,and complaints from customers for scan cock ups.they might act then
.Seems a prob in other offices.

The PDA's just get put in a heep outside the locker and the PHG puts them in the cradles when he gets time. Doesn't touch the battery.
