Does it exist in any DO anywhere or is it a cruel myth?
We were told about them at induction - morning meetings with all delivery staff before they go out to deliver that brings them up to date with news and basically anything that might affect their work.
But I've been at my DO eight weeks now without a single meeting. Is this normal? We get into trouble if we chat with each other while prepping and recently the DOM called a blue shirt over to ask him what e had been talking about with me!!! It's all a bit oppressive and we all seem to be expected to exist in our own vacuums.

“It’s raining don’t slip!” Or something like that. Actually tbf he is usually prettt decent, gives us a quick lowdown on what’s happening in terms of mail volumes and to come and speak to him if can’t complete.

Oh. So "everyone take their lapsing" and "it's windy remember the brakes on your HCT" count as part of this elusive "huddle" then?
I thought it meant we all had a proper get together meeting, not just be shouted at!
I was kinda hoping for a Hill Street Blues informative announcement finishing with a "let's be careful out there"
Silly me, thinking the DOM had a heart.

Yup. When DOM is present we are watched at all times. It is very oppressive.
DOM can sit about drinking coffee and go out for numerous fag breaks but us droogs have to keep our noses firmly attached to the frame until we leave for delivery.
I have never worked in such an odd unfriendly environment. Info is passed along in whispers. People are paranoid. Nobody trusts anyone. Tell one person a thing and EVERYONE knows it.
A commitment to transparency and information sharing could address a lot of the problems in my DO.

We’d love to have them, as it would mean less outdoor. But the managers are too worried people will cut off, so they just pretend to keep us updated instead.

The only thing I was told at induction day that subsequently turned out to be true, was the fact that I'd be delivering letters and parcels for Royal Mail.cookiewise wrote: We were told about them at induction..
Everything else was basically a heavily sugar coated fairy tale.

What about the bit about being treated with dignity and respect? You haven’t found that to be true?Killoffs wrote:The only thing I was told at induction day that subsequently turned out to be true, was the fact that I'd be delivering letters and parcels for Royal Mail.cookiewise wrote: We were told about them at induction..

Yeah - the induction was all fantasy about a different job in a different organisation.
Sitting round in a circle playing silly games that bore no relevance to the job at all. And it was compulsory!
The only thing I learned that day was RMs biggest customer is also their biggest competitor.

Sounds like a terrible manager. It's not normal to not be able to talk to your co-workers.
Transfer or try and improve things in your own office.
