Just a quick question about attendance reviews. Does a work place injury have any effect on the outcome of an attendance review?

No, they will only take it in yo consideration if you ever get to a stage 3.
I’ve known people get put on stages who have had strokes and heart attacks!

Absences related to a work place injury should be discounted from the attendance procedure.
The absences will still trigger a review but the stage warning (or whatever it is called now) should not be issued.

RM immediately took me off the driving and put me on various walks which I was struggling in the heat as I was still getting used to the medication and had no energy

a few days later a mix up led to them saying I was ok to drive that day

I wasnt and blacked out during the round, losing my glasses at the same time, didn't even realise until on way back, luckily I went back and found them on the path

I reported this and my manager told me I had to book sick

I had 2 weeks off

having been on stage 1 from the earlier sickness
they issued me with a stage 2 for the 2nd sickness

( yes even though its classed as a disability, even though they were connected, even though the lack of breaks contributed it, and after I was told I had to book sick etc)

anyway, I explained that they hadn't issued me with any paperwork for the stage 1
after 15 mins frantically hunting for it they realised they hadn't given me such paperwork ;-)
so they renewed my stage 1 from that date, ( out of spite I think )

I've asked for a risk assessment several times since
but its not happening even though it was promised in writing in the stage letter

does anyone still think Royal Mail care about us ?

On reading your story as the first absence was never recorded and you received no correspondence from manager including the decision letter confirming a stage 1 then this has not taken place.
Your second absence for your type2 diabetes and the attendace meeting would have to include all absences up to the date of the meeting which would now have to include your earlier absence which there is no paperwork for and this meeting would be at stage1 level not stage2.
As diabetes is a disabilty as your have rightly stated it would come under the realms of the Equality Act and would be discounted in calculation purposes in accordance with the attendance procedure.
You have not mentioned if your absences have involved a referral to OH Assist or you were accompanied at the attendance meetings by your union rep.
If you had an OH referral then their report would have stated that your condition of diabetes type 2 is covered in the Equality Act and your manager would have received their report and you copied in.

I think type 1 would almost certainly be classified as a disability but type 2 is less clear.
It depends on how it is managed.
As Tom Watson will testify type 2 is reversible in some instances.
It is best not to overcomplicate things and avoid stipulating what type of diabetes you have.
