As I have said, enough is enough, there has got to be something put in place to protect new entrance starters on probation periods from the tactics of so called managers bullying antics. They think they can get away with what they like because the new starter is worried if they rock the boat they wont get through there probation period. People come into the job with an open mind looking forward to a new career start, and most by the 8 week point are ready to give it all up because of the way they are being treat. Surely this isn't a great way for a company to build a willing workforce for the future. Why does RM let these so called managers get away with this? Surely they would be happier having happy, hardworking personnel then miserable and disgruntled employees.

Probably because they get a pensionable bonus for abusing everybody not just new starts!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

One of the reasons I became a Rep was because of the way I was treated as a new starter. I originally applied for and got a 20 hour, 4 day contract as that was all I wanted to supplement my Army pension. However in my 1st week of my 20 hour contract I did 68 Hours. We had no Rep and, like you said feared that rocking the boat would ruin my probation period. Now as a Rep I am on my new starters like a rash, members or not. I do not and will not allow any undue pressure on new starters in any way shape or form.

As for the old and bold the DOMs can have at them, they are big enough and ugly enough to look after them selves. Just kidding.
