shorter working week

just got our new times for next week since we are now 38 hours. anyway it was mentioned at breaktime that over the next 3 years when it goes down to 35 hrs that it will be ''inevitable'' that we will go to a 4 day week. having thought it through, and worked out our hours for each day, its not such a wild fantasy after all. it will make up for the 9 day fortnights they stole from us!!

anyone one else think likewise?

Depends on how much of the indoor work is taken away by automation.

take our break times off 35 hrs. only leaves 32 hrs left for work. not enough then for 5 days. very unlikely anyways.

I am already on 35 hours, don't really make much difference, still working 40+ hours a week because the route is way to big to do in your contracted hours. And! Before someone says cut off early each day that would make my working days even worse as the mail would just be building up more and more each day.

exactly, the more it builds up, the more THEY have to cover.

Was there a union member vote for wanting the shorter working week? Just the same workload in a shorter span .

Look you can only do so much in the time allowed just bring it back or don't lapse take all your breaks and ram the stuff left up your managers ass!

The membership got sold down the river with the latest paydeal.

When the 35 hour weeks comes in you'll be on less money (allowing for inflation and overall take home pay compared to a 39 hour week) and doing more physical outdoor work.

For that to happen RM would need to replace every single IMP/iLSM, CSS and T2K machine with new machines that can sort/sequence flats and letters together

Well you could work four hours more if you have any legs left to pay for you knee replacement every six months!

You won’t be on “less” money at all. You’ll be working less hours though

"IF" we go down to 35 hours you mean.

It'll never happen. It's dependant on huge savings and ridiculous new working methods that will never work.

In my opinion we'll never get down to 37 never mind 35. (Unless we lose paid breaks of course).

Some said that when I worked SIX days a week and 41.5 hours with less paid breaks only 30 min max!
