What if we have miscalculated and took out more than we thought was doable to finish on time?

You should always ask the lino for a time to phone up to confirm you will complete all you have, or will be bringing back, if you are not 100% sure you can complete before you go out. If you accept what the lino offers to reduce the workload verbally you are expected to complete that remaining workload. They can bring you in for 'discussions' otherwise if you bring back without notification as it turns into a delivery failure. Search 'Overrunning Delivery Royal Mail'.

Unfortunately this is the grey area that managers love, you could call them at 12 and tell them. But it's not like we miscalculate deliberately. Too many unforseen circumstances. Only other day had woman, shout through door would be there in a minute. Took her nearer 10. So I'm waiting 10 and partner also waiting 10 on me. Should we phone manager and say gonna be 10min over, can we bring half loop back. Cutting off procedure sucks.

10 minutes! Why on earth were you waiting for 10 minutes? That's above and beyond. Way above.

No grey area at all. Black and white, if over you don’t want to gonover your time and you have informed them before you go out then bringing items back that you miss judged is not an issue. The DOM might try and make it an issue, it might be for them but not us posties. Always make sure you inform somebody though when you get back as the DOM will be long gone.

Well, if you wanted 2 loops taken off but the manager only thinks that 1 is sufficient. The only thing that you can do is inform that manager that you will be ringing them up whilst you are out there because there is still a strong possibility that you may still be bringing mail/packets back and agree a time for them to take the call. You can do this via your PDA - this is the sort of stuff which we should be taught in WTLL sessions methinks.

Once you've done that, you have covered your back.

You are dead right postslippete but the cut off procedure never will be covered in WTLL
