merger of a few offices

had a meeting today to be told in the next several months our delivery office and 1 more possibly more will be merging...

that was about the sum of it...any questions were answered with not sure or don't know.

has anybody any experience with this...do the merged offices become 1 and if you are spare can you be sent out on any of the walks.

does seniority work when applying for vacant duties....does it open up to the whole office applying

Our rural area recently merged with a bigger town delivery unit.basically you will be classed as one unit and any body can apply for any duty on seniority.we were told this wouldn't happen but was blatently misslead and now all our best duties are taken by the other unit we merged with.

The merging of office units would be classed as a major change and a resign of duties.

Not true, a rural office has merged with my town office, no resign. If the town office is short they'll take staff off the rural and expect them to lapse.

Also when duties come up anyone can apply and seniority wins.

Would respectfully suggest that you check the WAY FORWARD AGREEMENT page 32 section 16.2 fits the bill.

I'm fairly certain if a DO of walks were moved and based in another site or DO they would be kept separate in terms of resigns and resourcing.

I would say that is manipulating a situation to their own satisfaction and totally ignoring national agreements so what is the point of having them or do we just pick and chose the one's that we want.

When a nearby small office closed and they moved in with us their duties were 'ring fenced' for 3 years.They kept to their own working arrangements etc.Any vacant duties were though open for anyone to sign for i'm sure.

Once again it seems that the result of ofices merging is being interpretated differently throughout the country.

it would cause chaos, it would cause disruption on a unmanageable level and it would cause a walk out. A merger would only happen on the grounds of that a resign does not happen.

Offices are rarely merged.
They are simply housed under the same roof but they remain separate entities - own managers, own reps etc.

At first we were a separate office under the same roof as you say. We had a full duty redesign as our first delivery points were miles away from our new office, for instance some duties were reversed. All lapsing is taken from the new office, collection routes redesigned to finish at new office, no room to park, no room to work, taking turns to load vans or loading out on the street. Absolutely shite place to work!
