The PDA

Two questions:
1. Has anyone actually been trained in the use of these other than simply scanning parcels as delivered?
2. Does anyone know if managers use the pda to monitor your speed and route (etc) when out delivering?

A few of us in my DO noticed a new option - Leave in a safe place. Great, but when you click, it goes on about taking a photograph. Waste of time, most people just click delivered now.

you'll be fine........until the gaffer calls you into the office to prove what you did with the parcel that your customer says "wasn't delivered"............

2. Does the recipient and/or sender get the photo or is it only released and used as evidence if there's a non-delivery claim?

1. Yes.
2. Yes - though not 100% certain.

1. The only message you get is that it has been left in a safe place. No specification as to where.
2. No. The customer cannot see the picture. I guess there is a way managers can access them if there was to be a non-delivery claim.

They get notified by a card through the door, stating where the item has been left. Works for me.

I’ve only taken about 3 photos of parcels in safeplaces so far! The customer rarely uses the safeplace option on tracked, most of the time it’s just blank so then it gets p739’d.

Initially with the official 'safeplace' tracked items specific locations chosen by the 'recipient' were written on the parcels. It seems to have gone back to a generic 'leave in a safe place' type message now most of the time. If possible I catch the 'recipient' in after ringing the doorbell which saves messing with the photo option.
Regarding training everyone was supposed to be shown the new photo & leave with neighbour options on the PDA by the coaches. If you don't have a coach then the DOM or union rep should have shown you. Then you would have had to sign that you had been trained on it.

Everyone is supposed to have received training a while back.
The PDA actuals data cannot be observed in real time but can be looked at the day after or at a later date. I believe the DOM has to have a genuine reason to observe the data.

Anyone's PDA keep crashing. And then u can't do nothing with it for 5 mins not even switch it on/off. Then it'll start working again like nothing happened. Not good when you're at someone's door.

Pull the battery out when this happens and it’ll let you reboot the pda.

Not sure about us but got a picture of my front door when i went online to get a packet redelivered, i expect R/M are the same with the safeplace pictures of tracked items.

They seem a little glitchy since the Android version was upgraded from Kit Kat to Lollipop
